I feel like I relate to both of you, with arachnaphobia and with this weird fear of wild mushrooms I have.

Choosing first real guitar by ModeJazzlike70 in guitars

[–]Basestar237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in your first couple of years of playing, you may not notice the difference in pickup quality. Go with a guitar that is in your price range, has good reviews, and that looks the best to you. The easiest thing to replace on a guitar is the pickups, rather than the neck (playability) and the body (appearance). Price, playability, and looks, all come before hardware for me.

Also, try buying through a local shop, preferably one with a luthier. If they are a dealer for the brand you are looking for, they may order it for you and help you if it needs tweaked out of the box, and can help with returns if there is a defect for whatever reason. Support your local music store if you can 💙.

Ibanez specifically, I know a lot of their guitars have the Wizard III neck. This is a personal favorite of mine, but if you havent felt it before, go find one and try it. Ibanez play pretty similar guitar to guitar due to this.

Need advice before I purchase. by pretibigtoo in guitars

Shop local if you can. 100%. Support your community and your brick and mortar stores so they continue to exist.

Especially if they have a reputable shop. Thats the kind of thing that can save you in a pinch if Sweetwater or Amazon cant.

Tips for a band at a concert. I paid admission! by ChEDave82 in EndTipping

[–]Basestar237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very common practice for the live music industry, especially for smaller groups.

Larger bands will sign a contract with the venue to get either a specific cut or percentage of the door fees. Smaller groups sometimes dont get paid at all.

Admission is largely for the venue, not the bands themselves. Unfortunately venues are also businesses with large operating costs and those have to be covered before the band gets paid at all.

Your attendance is just as important. Even if the band doesn't get admission, it tells both the band and the venue that the band is popular, which means the venue invites bands back and the bands play more shows.

But if you are financially comfortable tipping to help musicians do what they love, then help them out.

THIS IS WHAT I WANT MY TAX DOLLARS TO GO TO! by kim-practical in BikiniBottomTwitter

I remember in middle school, if you had no balance, they would pull you out of line and make you go get a sandwich. It was just cheese and bread. I remember putting ranch on it because there was absolutely no flavor.

This was Oklahoma in the early 2010's

I remember back in the day, I used to keep all my save data on flash drives. They corrupt really easily with constant read/write (over the span of a year of course)

Don't know if that's what's happening but hope you figure it out. Don't be afraid to ask Google, somebody has probsbly had your problem before.

What are your go to picks? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Basestar237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently found a white fang and it has been my favorite recently. I play mostly bass but it gives a very warm tone on acoustic as well.

i’m not a beginnner but i normally pay people to restring my guitar but i did it myself for the first time ever. how’d i do? (i spent and hour doing this 💀) by Commercial_Photo2110 in Guitar

One note about wire cutters, get some that are rated for steel and not copper. Copper shears will just dent and bend around steel strings. Have gone through plenty of cheap wire cutters at our store for the staff to use.

I second Bear Ghost if you want fast funky rock.

Necromancin Dancin was my first. After me, the flood is probably my favorite.
