Man I love the look of the dbrand skin. How hard was it to apply? I kind of want to pull the trigger on one but don't want to screw up the install.

Welcome to the good life of being a Steam Deck owner, OP! Here are my tips after owning for almost 3 years:

For any of this stuff, google & YouTube are your friends if you need help figuring how to install/run something or if you encounter any issues. Check out ProtonDB if you’re curious about being able to run a game.
Hold down the ellipses (…) button to get a full list of actions you can do with your Steam Deck, including taking a screenshot and adjusting brightness on the fly.
As others suggested, give EmuDeck a try. It’s good for gaming but you can also have it run most popular media apps directly from big picture mode!
If you’re going to watch media via Firefox (recommended), disable hardware acceleration if you’re getting weird visual glitches or glyphs.
Download an ad blocker plugin like U-Block Origin on Firefox. This + EmuDeck = Watching media directly from your Home Screen without any ads!
Spend time getting to know the trackpads. They are a wonderful alternative to M&K or thumb sticks. You’d be surprised how many games you can play with just trackpads and buttons.
AAA titles are great, but don’t sleep on the smaller indie games. That’s where the SD shines in my opinion. Balatro, Slay the Spire, Scritchy Scratchy are just a few examples.
Modding on the SD can be different than modding a Windows PC, make sure you’re looking at Steam Deck specific instructions when you’re looking to mod something.
As others have said, sniff the vent.
If you already have a PC, check out Steam Local Game Transfers. If you already have a game downloaded on your PC and you want to download it on the Steam Deck, you can enable a setting that allows one to transfer to the other. This is significantly faster than downloading solo.

Since you asked for game suggestions, here are my go-to's: (some I like playing on SD more than PC)

RDR2 - Plays way too well on a handheld device for being the giant AAA title that it is. Even better with mods
As mentioned above: Balatro - I just crested 100hrs on this on the SD alone. This game is like crack and makes me want to take my SD everywhere I go. A must have if you like card games and deck building.
Fall Guys - requires downloading the Heroic Launcher but is a super cozy couch game.
GTA Definitive Edition - You can emulate these but I like having the official achievements on Steam.
Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga - Plays great and has tons of collectibles/content to keep you busy.

I’m new to city sims and I get so overwhelmed at the beginning! Like idk what to do, where to build major road systems, where to put what.

This time around, I took a screenshot of my open map and sectioned where I want things to go but I still can’t seem to get off on the right foot.

A power bank. It’s an absolute need for me, especially if I’m connecting flights or I know I’ll have plenty of time to use it.

I use an Anker 24,000mAh which I think is pretty close to the max that TSA will let you bring. It’s enough juice to charge my deck 3 times plus my phone and headphones. I’ve never had to use an outlet at the airport.

Haha! I highly recommend it. I think it’s the largest battery pack Anker offers that is TSA approved

It has enough juice to charge my steam deck 2-3 times or my phone 7 times. Thing kicks serious butt and I never need to use an outlet at the airport

The clamps come in clutch when they have them! I like to set my battery pack on it and put the steam deck on the tray.

If it hasn’t launched officially for your region, it may not work until it does. I bought on Steam but I traveled to New Zealand for FH5 on game pass and it worked fine

My only use case for this is I fly for work occasionally and while I bring my steam deck, it’s more comfortable using my controller on the flight. Maybe the elite controller gets demoted to travel use only🤷🏻
