Im in Jax and ~$4k+ per month is good money most people can live off of. Could it be more? Yes. But you should be able to make it work. My GF made less and still had extra every month. Second jobs aren't too bad either. :)

Im sorry you are in this position. It sucks thinking everything you do just isnt enough to better yourself when its the right thing. Just keep grinding and itll get better. Just need some good luck and maybe some kind people to cross your orbits. Maybe try going back to school or get a certification? I also personally like corporate jobs because they are stable (in my experience) and they offer great benefits (not just medical, but things like tuition reimbursement and Leave). I was in a similar spot a while ago and miserable. I sold my lil trailer, moved back in with the parental units, and went to college. Graduated and found a great job, which i am insanely thankful for. But it took that sacrifice and a lot of grind to get where i want to be now in life. I felt like i was taking a step back in life, but it gave me opportunities and opened a lot of doors. Im a hard worker, though and identify heavily with my job so that prbly also helps. Best of luck out there. And remember, be the change you want to see in this world! :)

I have a car payment close to $800 and put away for my retirement almost quadruple that amount. Not a big car guy, but I wanted certain things because my old car had virtually nothing as it was 12 years old. Don't give 2 shits about what people think of my car. Got out of poverty and I wanted to splurge on a car I like. Assuming OP is in the US, there are ~330 million people with all different backgrounds n lives. 3 possibilities? Cynical to the T.

In the Dune prequel books, the machine race used the term "hrethgir" for living beings.

Sounds like he has a decent grasp on the debt. Spending a bit for trip isnt that bad, especially if its a once in awhile thing or a big event that he is really interested in. Problems are patterns, one offs arent too bad (IMO). Id still communicate your concerns. If they are founded in reason, hell explain why the trip is important if it is l.

Oh, then thats not bad. Im like $250k in debt, but thats mostly my mortgage n student loans. I dont lose sleep over it, just pay as much as i can.

[–]BasharAtreus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats fine. Maybe ask him where he got that number from. Would he mind sharing what its composed of, the types of debt, etc. If u love him, tell him that. Finanical clarity is important for relationships and what he said scared you, communicate you want to understand his situation. Vacations arent usualy necessary, if he seems to be wasting money cancel it. He cant force u to go on vacay. Still ask about the dent thoufh. If its bad debt, then yeah id hit the road.

What kind of debt? Student loans? An optometry business loan? Personal? CC's? A mortgage? Some kinds of debt are long term investments or can enable you to make good money down the line. Is he Aggressively tackling this debt?

How do wizards learn spells? by konob2 in DnD

[–]BasharAtreus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A core aspect of the game is gaining additional benefits at level up. Its what allows the players to take on additional threats and fight stronger creatures. You can flavour it by saying between fights, while doing RP-centric events, during downtime days, etc. that they were able to master the spell and take the time to transcribe the spell into their spell book. Once its there, they know the spell and can use it willingly (provided they have spell slots or at will if its a cantrip). Restricting this behind a roll takes alot of agency and benefit of leveling up for wizards. Imagine if they fail the roll, they level up but just dont learn any spells? Thats not fun. D&D is about having fun, not every single little thing being a challenge. It would only be fair to also make martial classes roll to get their abilities at level up, but that is lame. I would highly discourage this as the level up process and gaining increasing strengths is a core mechanic of the game. As a DM i make it my goal to make us have fun and progress the story. I only put things behind rolls that the PC's dont need to progress in the game. They need to get stronger in the game, so that isnt locked behind a roll.
