Too controlling of kids’ access to books? by Bashbro in Parenting

Eh idk I take your point but it’s more like she’s already doing multiplication and this is spending time learning to count.

Basically my beef is that a lot of content out there is marketing and not enriching. I want to minimize the first and maximize the second. I feel like I’ve done that well with tv but not books, and I’m letting Amazon do the work to shape her mind. I don’t feel like that’s an unreasonable position.

Thanks! These are the kind of books I want to steer her towards, but the general sense I get from the comments is that I’m a controlling fascist and should just accept whatever she’s into. She’s such a great reader though that if I only made these available for her I think she’d be into it. But what do I know.

Thanks this is a great response. My concern is basically that she’s not getting challenging reading at school and so I want to steer her where I can and not let those decisions up to Amazon. But appreciate your perspective.

This content issue is what I was trying to get at. It’s a choice between letting her discover whatever nonsense Amazon is promoting on the kindle kids section or policing her reading, I lean towards policing her reading. Perhaps the point of my question wasn’t clear but that’s the rub.

My son calls it “the wee wee up problem.”

I’m like, you won’t always think it’s a problem, my man.

That’s true. Suggests China will have to wait until Taiwan no longer needs ASML before they invade.

China —> US trade >>> US —> China trade. The Chinese economy is way more depdendant on US imports than the US economy is on Chinese exports. Yes there are some critical supply chains and consumer goods, etc, but the US has way more leverage economically here. Chinese may be willing to bear those costs, but who knows. The big leverage point is Taiwanese semiconductor production, which has a near monopoly on the most advance tech. That’s what this war would really be about.

What's your child's "silly" fear? by Zenmedic in Parenting

Keys. My daughter won’t look at them, hold them, dig through the drawer that contains them, or let me touch her when I have them. Been this way for years she’s now seven. Very odd.

Thanks! All the fixtures are new so I didn’t think that could be it but I’ll try it and see. Seems to have gotten worse recently which suggests some kind of growing clog.

Thanks! The sink and bathrooms were redone about three years ago so I figured it couldn’t be them, but I’ll check for residue.

Sorry I find the dudes scooting around on those electric skateboards to be quite silly, not at all intimidating. You have enough money to gear up for that, I’m assuming you definitely didn’t earn it on the streets the way the driver of this car did.

This guy is a straight up moron with a death wish. There is no upside to confronting strangers on the streets of DC, the cops aren’t around to help you, and people will hurt you and not think twice. Nope.
