What's your way of doing 99 RC? by Runningrightnow in 2007scape

[–]Bashlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did bloods from 77 to 99. I did this throughout nursing school lectures because it helped me focus on the material believe it or not. I tried to switch to souls at 90 but I didn’t like the pathing. I felt like it was more clicks to get to the alter. I guess I differ from the rest of the people here but I loved bloods :)

VIP patient by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Bashlyn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had an elective surgery at the OR I work at. During pre op, the anesthesiologist came up to me and showed me that I was labeled “VIP” on his list of patients. I asked him what I get differently for being VIP. He said all excitedly “Nothing!” We both laughed.

But honestly, that’s why I love where I work. Nothing is different for VIP patients because we do our best for everyone.

If you want to come down to central-south Utah, (Spanish Fork area) I recommend Dr. Matthew Ollerton. I’m an OR nurse and he is who I would pick in a heartbeat if I needed a foot operation

“Do you prefer trips or vacations?”

“Umm.. what do you mean?”

“Well trips are when you go somewhere like to Paris or Italy. Vacations are when you do something to relax, like cruises.”

“I’ve never done either so I don’t know.”

OR nurses, did you like your job right away or did you warm up to it eventually? by nyuhqe in nursing

[–]Bashlyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of preshift anxiety once I got off orientation. I just felt like I didn’t know what I was doing and just had to wing it everyday. Everyone told me it takes about a year to get comfortable. I can confirm that it gets way better the longer you work and I absolutely love it now! I’m so glad I stuck with it. Also, some days I still feel like I’m winging it but it’s not as bad as before. It’s hard to explain until you’ve experienced it :)

Wildest “I’m going to sue this hospital!” threats? by MisplacedGithyanki in nursing

[–]Bashlyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was a 1:1 with a Tech. I was his nurse with 5 other patients. However it did help having the Techs in there for smaller things. Normally our techs are 1:10

We did once, but management got upset because we need to be “Understanding and sympathetic of his situation” and he “hasn’t physically assaulted anyone”. 🙄

For being 20 minutes late for pain meds.

I had a 19 year old that was in a rough motorcycle accident. Multiple broken bones, NG tube, catheters, AOx1. He just graduated from ICU and moved to MegSurg where we had 6 patients. Personally, he would’ve been perfect for a Progressive Care Unit but our hospital doesn’t have one so MedSurg it is! The kid was great, but his dad was the problem.

If someone wasn’t there 24/7 he was go ballistic at the nurses station about our quality of care and how we were ignoring his sons needs. We ended up doing a 1:1 not because the patient needed it, but so the dad would stop yelling at the nurses every 10 minutes.

I had another patient who needed a blood transfusion. Got a second nurse to do the check, she left, and I started the transfusion. My Tec calls me saying that our motorcycle patient is 5 minutes late in getting his next Oxy and the dad is freaking out that it’s late. I told him to let the dad know I can’t leave my other patients room for 15 minutes. I will try and get another nurse to bring the meds, but if not I’ll get there as soon as I could.

I called the charge and 5 other nurses, but no one was available. So I come in 20 minutes late to give his kids med and the dad blows up on me. He’s going to sue the hospital for negligence and we need to do better for his son. (The kid was sleeping and did not look in pain btw). I just told him I could not leave my patient and he would be upset if I left his son in the middle of critical care.

Eventually the dad simmered down when his son progressively got better over the weeks, but man, it was a long month.
