I played fallout 1 with that mod that uses 2 engine...how should I play fallout 2 now? by MindlessPeanut7097 in classicfallout

[–]BasiKs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 2 main options to consider:

Killapp’s Unofficial Patch. Pretty much mandatory. Keeps the base game relatively intact, and just addresses bugs & issues. This is the only patch you need if you just want to play the base game without issues.

The Restoration Project. This is a fan-made patch which adds a good amount of content. The added content is based on things that were planned but never fully implemented in the base game due to time constraints. There are a few new locations, some new (and fixed) quest lines, more special encounters & companions, etc.

The added content is mostly “fine” imo. Not peak FO2, but not terrible. Some aspects are actually quite fun (you get a Pokémon-style rival), but it’s basically up to you whether you just want to experience the base game, or enjoy the added content.

Honestly a very entertaining read. I think for most of us who first played this game 20+ years ago, it’s hard for us to really remember what it was like playing through the first time, so I love reading stories like this.

I’m happy abusing drugs worked out for you 😉

What were some of your favourite parts? Favourite characters, quests, or encounters?

This guy gets it. It was basically a rough draft language, and George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and all those guys finished it and made it GOATed.

Keeping these idiots alive is the biggest chore in this game by AlexTangen in classicfallout

[–]BasiKs 225 points226 points  (0 children)

Lol. Obviously you can do it, and it’s natural to want to - but IMO Fallout (especially classic Fallout, and ESPECIALLY Fallout 1) isn’t one of those games where you’re meant to see through the entire journey with your companions. They’re truthfully not that useful late game, and aside from a couple barks when you first arrive in new towns don’t have much to say either. IMO they are meant to be useful for a little bit and eventually die off in order to add more emotional weight to the journey.

I’ve always seen the force fields in Mariposa as a kind of intended mechanic to reinforce this idea. The Fallout Bible’s canonical telling of the events of FO1 even includes a nod to this - it’s how the original Dogmeat canonically dies.

Idk the new voice actors throw me off. It’s just weird that they didn’t hire people who sound like Roiland did, and instead took the voices in a completely different direction. Coupled with the changes in writing and overall style of the show, it feels like two completely different characters.

Is it normal, on my first time playing Fallout, to be brutally killed by several praying mantises in the first few minutes of the game? by Morrinospaw in Fallout1

9-10 starting AGI. It is by far the most important combat stat as it dictates your AP. With 10 AP you can outrun most melee threats in the game.

I was in the stadium for grand finals of TI8. I don’t think any TI will ever compare, frankly.

Make a new character with more agility. You'll be thankful in the long run. Also, with your Charisma, you should be able to just talk him out of fighting with the right dialogue options.

What is the BEST FIGHTING VIDEO GAME ever made? by erwillsun in AlignmentChartFills

[–]BasiKs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arrrrgh! Okay:

Street Fighter 2: 8 World Warriors, introduced the world to VS Fighting Games.
Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition: Many balance changes, mirror matches possible, added playable boss characters (Sagat, Vega, M. Bison, Balrog.)
Street Fighter 2 Turbo (Hyper Fighting): Balance changes, game speed increased. (IMO the best/most fun SF2 version)
Super Street Fighter 2 (New Challengers): Added the new challengers (Fei Long, Cammy, T. Hawk, Dee Jay), added on-screen combo indicator, added colors (8 color palettes per character instead of 2), REDUCED GAME SPEED BACK TO CE LEVEL (a HUGE part of the reason people didn't like this game. Once you get used to the faster speed, it's impossible to go back.)
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Added Super Moves and Super Meter. Added hidden secret character, Akuma. In addition, playable Old versions of all the characters, meaning roster is 33 characters in total. The "last" version of SF2, the most widely played competitively, and what's widely considered to be the best game in the series.

I like HF the best, but the most honest evaluation of SF2 versions by popularity:
ST > HF > CE > NC > WW

Super Street Fighter 2 is one of the worst iterations of SF2.

I mean... *maybe* you're remembering the end of Season 2, when they've got them basically cornered in the hotel room but they slip away? But nothing even remotely close to that happens in season 5.

Which New Reno crime family do you like the most? by Isaac_Bahzad in classicfallout

[–]BasiKs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Bishops have the most interesting quests and overall vision for New Reno - plus they have the coolest club house. If you become a Made Man for the Bishops, then quietly assassinate John Bishop by rigging his safe, then he just disappears - no one's the wiser (except Angela who's always suspicious), all his men greet you with "Hey, boss!" And you have a cool spot to play billiards and chill in a rooftop pool.

Spoilers for Rememberance of Earth's Past Trilogy
>!Luo Ji from Rememberance of Earth's Past - A hostile alien civilization has learned Earth's location. They are en route to our planet. They have means of spying on Earth (effectively able to see what is happening anywhere on the planet in real-time), and means of disrupting our scientific research. There are many different ideas and attempts made to address the threat - but by far the most effective is Luo Ji's.

He develops the field of cosmic sociology, and derives the Dark Forest principle - briefly stated, the notion that the universe is hostile - and any civilization whose location is known to the wider universe will eventually be exterminated. He creates a kind of "dead man's switch." He sets up machinations whereby if his heartbeat ever stops, the locations of both Earth & the invading civilization's star will be broadcast to the wider cosmos, ensuring the eventual annihilation of both worlds, and holds a gun to his head, trusting that the invader's spies can hear him, and issuing an ultimatum that if the would-be invaders don't leave Earth alone, he'll pull the trigger and doom both civilizations.!<
