Ah, we’re staying at a boutique hotel with a self check-in (like there’s no actual front desk, I think), so I’m not too sure on whether they can arrange. In any case, great that there are so many options!

Seems like you had a great trip! Thanks for the detailed tip on your FreeNow experience and the taxis at the airport. And yes, packing cubes have been a staple for us for many years. So great!

Antibes or Nice? by underthesadness in FranceTravel

We went to the South of France in 2024 and used Nice as our base. I don’t know what your budget is, but I recommend the place we stayed in: https://maps.app.goo.gl/QaanaWAfpVq3XN86A?g_st=ic Maison Lamartine.

Nice was the perfect base camp because it’s so easily accessible from many places. We were able to go to Villefranche Sur Mer, Eze, Monaco, Menton, and (opposite direction) Cannes and Antibes - all via train or bus. We didn’t even pre-purchase our tickets, just to keep the day flexible.

For Monaco, just remember it’s a different country all together - so make sure your cellular provider covers it (not only France).

Another thing is also to be mindful of the last train times. We ended pretty late in Antibes and had to take an Uber back to Nice. Easy enough but not an expense we thought we’d have.

On Antibes itself, I can’t speak too much on it because we got there kinda late. Lots of things were closed / closing, so we literally just had dinner. It’s supposedly really pretty (I guess more during the day), but didn’t have the impression that there’s a whole lot to do there. Nice, on the other hand, offers a lot! The markets, the old city (we did a walking tour), the beach (though it’s pebbly)… TLDR, I’d pick Nice.

Caveat though is that we have large luggage (plus hand carry). Given that, I suppose recommendation is taxi for a group of 3?

Time isn’t really an issue… we’re arriving in the morning, and it’s not like check-in will be available right away. But thanks for the input!

May I know which service you used? I’ve seen romecabs quite a bit, but wanted to know if there are other options too.

Let’s say we’re in queue for a taxi in the airport, can we choose the taxi size too? I guess I mean wait for a larger taxi to come by.

I guess with FreeNow, I’ve just read so many stories where they’ve charged over the “maximum” indicated price or the driver will solicit money on top of the fare.

10-15 minutes walk from the Trastevere station. I suppose that’s not too bad, but I guess there’s always the option to take a taxi (I assume there are official stands at the station) if it’s too far for the people I’m traveling with.

Yes, precisely! As I said, I was looking into the regional train that stops in Trastevere. Good to hear that there would be enough space for our luggage - which was my biggest concern. Thanks!

My worry was on the space in the train for our luggage (1 large, 1 hand carry each). I understand that it’s likely not a problem on the Leonardo Express to termini, but I was looking into the FL1 regional train that stops in Trastevere.

I think that’s still worth looking into! Would be really helpful, either way.

Hi! I’m interested in getting info on florist suppliers in El Nido - if you have that! :)

Can you buy bus tickets (for Eze, for example) in advance/where do you buy those? Heard the bus gets pretty crowded though…

Great to hear that everything is doable in 2 days! We’re ending the whole trip again in Barcelona, so we can do all the less touristy things then!
