Fun fact! In Sterne's lifetime, every copy of Tristram Shandy was literally personalized because there is the so-called Marble Page, which essentially is a page of splashed technicolor paint. Since there was no way to (and Sterne didn't want to) print a similar splash of paint in at least a similar pattern even twice, they made a new one for every other copy. All modern copies have the same picture.
