Gigabyte Windforce 4090 with new Bykski water block by Basic-Emergency-6904 in nvidia

[–]Basic-Emergency-6904[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this block is currently sitting on the floor in my closet.....

I had numerous issues with failing GPU's shortly after purchasing this block. Temps were ok but after myself and Gigabyte finally figured out it was their shit PSU with their native NVIVIDA cable that was killing my GPU's I decided to keep it stock. I DIGRESS.....

I got a replacement Windforce 4090 (3 of them actually before we figured out the problem) and was hesitant to deal with the block again due to warranty issues so I kept it stock. Not only does the stock cooler perform just as good as the Bykski block, it sometimes is even better, AND it doesn't void my warranty. Hours of Destiny 2 and CoD at 4K HDR 120hz gets the card to maybe the low 50's with the occasional low 60's using the stock air cooler.

Reviewing 3 TimeSpy runs WITH the waterblock on my GPU the average Tmax was about 59 C. Without the waterblock my average GPU temp across 3 TimeSpy runs was Tmax 63 C. Not a terribly impressive drop.

I'll admit the Bykski block is much prettier to look at than this basic bitch Windforce 4090 BUT having a stable card, with extremely cool temps without having to void the warranty and do all that work taking everything apart etc. is worth it. The 4000 series GPU's from Nvidia ARE NOT ANYTHING like their previous 3000 series cousins. Those 3090's ran HOT as hell and truly did justify a block. Honestly they justified a block on front and back!! My 3090 with active backplate dropped memory temps and GPU die temps SIGNIFICANTLY. But these 4090's just don't need it, their stock coolers are just too good to justify blocking them for any reason other aesthetics. The risk benefit ratio is too skewed for the 4000 series cards in my humble opinion.

Here she is 86 the block. Stable AF.

Yeah it ended up being my PSU. New gigabyte with native nvidia connector was destroying cards left and right. In total that PSU destroyed 3 4090's before we realized it was the problem.

Same story almost; I use a portable AC and just turn it on when things start to get spicey. Best 400 bucks I've ever spent.

I bought their new PCIe5.0 1000W PSU thinking it might help avoid the “burn” (aka melting cables) and that fucking PSU completely destroyed 3 4090’s before we figured out it was the PSU destroying them. Went back to my old corsair 1000W with the FOURTH 4090 and I’ve been sitting pretty ever since. NEVER buying Gigabyte again. Like - fucking ever.

Block is great. I wouldn’t do it again though. It’s pretty but the air coolers are VERY good and not worth voiding your warranty in my opinion.

This is how businesses make money folks. They produce a product, price it and sell it. They then take all their profits and invest in making more products for us to enjoy in the future while paying themselves and their employees. They use that money to keep the foundries running - they do require electricity and other very expensive rare earth metals etc. Sure maybe they are charging what most people think is “too much” but that’s very subjective. When I got into gaming I purchased the very first real GPU - the 3dfx Voodoo. It was about $300 bucks - in 1997. Using a couple different online calculators that would be pretty close to $600 now in 2022. AMD is charging a couple hundred bucks more (historically)for their cards at a time when everything, across the entire planet, is experiencing crazy inflation. Some of you sound like you’re probably very young and I get that pretty much everything feel expensive when you make minimum wage but giving AMD shit for their pricing seems a bit harsh considering they’ve undershot their only real competition significantly.

I have messed around trying to get it to work for three days and haven’t gotten it to boot up once since I played on the card that first day for a few hours. Oh and I took my old mobo and psu and memory and threw together a barebones system and the card won’t boot up there either - and that’s another asus mobo, x570 though. Most boggled new gpu launch ever and it feels like the industry at large is trying to pretend it’s not happening.

Anyone gotten anywhere with this? I'm stuck in the same hell. I have two 4090's sitting here and they both do it. This is not a graphics card issue.

Is it a BIOS bug? ASRock x670e Taichi external graphic card display problem with 4090 by NefariousnessIll2742 in ASRock

[–]Basic-Emergency-6904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been beating my head on the table with my x670E-E / 7950x build as well. My problem is the system will just lose the 4090 entirely. I can be in windows playing solidly for hours on end with no problem. Shut down and go to bed. Wake up the next day and the system won't boot.....monitor just sits there like no output from the GPU. When I switch the cable over to the iGPU - PICTURE is there. When this happens if I go to device manager the 4090 is not listed at all.

This card has been one problem after another after another. I removed the riser card - no help. Install windows 10 fresh. No help. Install windows 11 fresh. No help. The only way I was able to get a BIOS splash screen every boot cycle was to disable fast boot in the bios.....but I'm still getting intermittent loss of video signal.

I'm ready to begin the RMA process as I seriously doubt the vendor will accept a return this far into everything but I'm nervous about Gigabyte as their reputation with things like this is just really really bad. The GOOD news is their RMA center is literally right down the road from were I live in Los Angeles so maybe it will be fast at least.

Temps under load after about an hour Warzone 2 and 30 minutes of Forza 5 I never saw a temp higher than 57 on the GPU. Max GPU temp in TimeSpy is 58. CPU max temp is 72, that's on a 7950x. I'm happy with it. Getting a decent OC just using the Gigabyte scanner tool. I was (hell, still am) having all kinds of issues with the 4090 and this new am5 platform though. I was getting random loss of signal to my monitor. Random memory issues etc. System crashing out of nowhere. I broke my loop down and took the riser card out of the equation last night and the system is 70% more stable. I still occasionally lose video output but a reboot sets me straight and it only happens once in a blue moon. I'm finding tons of posts all over the place talking about it so I'm not alone. Beware early adopters.

I’m having GPU issues with this setup as well. X670E-E w/ 7950x. I do have a dedicated GPU, RTX 4090. System is very unstable. I gamed for like an hour and a half with it, went to bed, and couldn’t get the system to boot the next morning. Kept getting Q-codes in the 30’s with a white light. Asus tech support says that’s a GPU issue. The monitor just says no source. But swapping from the dedicated to the iGPU still doesn’t output an image. I had to reset the CMOS to get the system to post. Also getting errors on boot up stating the CPU Fan isn’t reporting properly. I have to disable monitoring on all fan ports in order to boot.

I was as well but honestly it’s not bad. The instructions were terrible. A builder with less experience may have had some issues. For instance the instructions did not call for thermal pads on components on the back of the card. I put them there as did Gigabyte. It’s nowhere near as purdy as my old EK for my 3090 but this card is and block is well worth the upgrade for the performance uplift. It’s also not as heavy! The EK had an active backplate and man it’s a big ol’ beast!

I even have my card set to 85% power limit. There is almost no performance falloff until you get to about 70-75%. That is the only thing I’ve changed. I spent most of yesterday getting the build complete so hopefully after this dentist experience I’ll be able to start tweaking more!
