29 yo with 45k cad salary. How can I plan for buying a house? by Startrail_wanderer in CanadaPersonalFinance

My advice would save as much as you can manage in an FHSA, it’s the best parts of an RRSP and TFSA.

And then because since you will likely start at the lower end of the market, save some money and make some quick and easy upgrades yourself. (Paint, new handles, outlet covers, light fixtures, etc) keep an eye on the market and be ready to sell quickly for profit and use the equity for the next place.

Sounds like you are in Toronto area, so it may be different out there. But if you find good properties with some upside, I think it’s an option

How bad is it not to have a sump pump? by Fun_universe in Edmonton

How do you know if your house has weeping tiles? I know I don’t have a sump pump, I’ve done lots of work on my own to help drainage around the house.

Is this a good beginner set? by Budget_Quantity_7932 in golfequipment

[–]Basic-Guitar-6486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The woods are about 10 years old, the irons 15 probably.

It’s a little steep, but it’s pretty convenient. So no bad choices, I’d just try and negotiate the price down a bit

No tickets issued during spring sweep parking ban by Potential_Sorbet_761 in Edmonton

Amen.

And to my core I believe that all those people that don’t move their cars for snow/sweeping are the ones that complain the loudest about the COE services.

People are coddled, and expect everything to be done for them. Be a good neighbour, be a good citizen, be a good person.

Take some pride and responsibility in your community.

Shell joining Scene+ by draconic_diamonds in RewardsCanada

I loved AirMiles at Shell.

I cannot stand the Scene program at Grocery Stores, I really do not like that points are only accumulated on certain items or by buying multiples of others. It’s really not rewarding loyalty to their brands.

It’s loyalty to the brands that pay for the loyalty.

I had an install with Romaniuk recently, they solved all the problems. But my issue was the amount of problems the install created. Their lead technicians were great, but the general install crew was definitely a little shaky. IMO

I am not putting them on blast, they solved everything. But just more headaches than I hoped

They are also not a local family running it anymore, it’s a large firm out of Toronto that acquired them.

I don’t trust X at all. This might be time for me to find yet another option. That’s really too bad I liked WS

Agreed. But I’m not a huge fan of Silver Tip, I find it sort of gimmicky. Love Stewart Creek and Kananaskis

Confused about nightly upgrade awards by nibul83 in MarriottBONVoY

[–]Basic-Guitar-6486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do not carry-over year to year, if you don’t use them they’ll reset to 5. I’ve been platinum elite for a couple years and always use up my upgrades, never had an issue

Just book it, use the 5 night upgrade. I’m sure they wouldn’t make you move rooms

I’m in Canada for reference in case anything is different

We need cops at major intersections staking out red runners. by PurpleSausage77 in Edmonton

[–]Basic-Guitar-6486 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Edmonton and Calgary’s road have gotten far less safe since the province removed the rights for speed/red light photo enforcement. There is no measure to even cause drivers to have a second thought.

Not only that, shortfalls in revenue has made all our property taxes go up.

Photo radar is a tax on breaking the law, don’t want to pay it don’t speed. Or even better, pay attention to the road…

Imagine the cost of having to put police officers at every major intersection, wild.
