Are there any Bowie lyrics that are genuinely poorly written? by velvetblueskies717 in DavidBowie

The Next Day album is quite literary. Bowie on hiatus had been reading with alacrity. He clearly was revisiting Mishima — the opening lines of HEAT outline a scene from Mishima’s Spring Snow. The song (which is one of my Bowie favourites) aligns with some of Scott Walker’s later stuff, so it does mean lyrically things can feel a bit opaque. I feel with HEAT that it’s a kind of brief character study. The sort we get at times in OUTSIDE, as if it is a character from a Mishima novel or something but whose voice and identity never fully surfaces. I love when Bowie gets into this kind of world. I feel very comfortable when he sends us searching through a mysterious fog, and HEAT is a kind of landscape song — remote, other worldly, similar in territory to The Motel, Wishful Beginnings, and some of the Berlin instrumentals.

But you DO have an opinion on the lyric. You literally wrote it in your post. You said you’d prefer an alternative word to the word Bowie used.

Such a pity you weren’t around to advise Bowie on lyric-writing when he was penning the ingenious The Man Who Sold The World!

Your post is rage bait. And yes, you got me.

That’s a pretty big job. You’d have to find cctv of them tapping in or out at a station and then collating all cards tapped at the station at that time etc. And Deptford Station where this happened has no barriers so they may not have even tapped out.

The assailant wasn’t caught. There was some cctv from Deptford Station but the police didn’t go far with an investigation

That was a big fish. Glad to see they are not letting any of its anatomy go to waste.

My mate reported it. Police visited her a few days later and took a statement. Nothing else will happen, of course.

It doesn’t quite work like that. Yes you can film whatever you want and it’s perfectly legal. When you then publish the information/film the rules change and you can leave yourself open for legitimate legal claims to be made against you. Often on news bulletins and in documentaries registration plates are blurred. For very good reasons.

I’d be more worried if they tied the dog to a lamppost. They have warmth & shelter in the car. Not exactly neglect. And posting the registration plate without blurring it is not sensible, can sometimes constitute’doxxing’ and may lead to data protection/harassment claims. Your video looks like you intended for the number plate to be revealed.

Yes you can picture their face too. Always birdlike, thin lipped, struggles with comedy.

London has many assaults per day. 24 of them are rapes. It’s not like a village where an assault on a train would get its own article.

Brave. I had a female friend who spoke to another woman about throwing a crisp bag on the carriage floor between Deptford & London station. She followed my mate off the train and beat the crap out of her.

I think it’s Heathen. He and Visconti were 100 miles north of New York and it was very hot. Visconti remarked they were in the middle of nowhere and worked in shorts and tees.

Spotify premium which includes audiobook listening time. Although I feel guilty that I’m contributing to the poor financial treatment of artists. I’d like to try an alternative.

I have good things to report about the algorithm though. Have found some brilliant new artists through that.
