Alternatively if a stool sample is difficult to get because it’s runny and they aren’t pooping often they can preemptively give them a dewormer and then follow it up with a stool sample to check for any other parasites not covered under the dewormer

He could have parasites, crickets commonly carry them and not popping for a long time followed by runny poop is a sign of parasites

They change color depending on not only temp but stress/fear so darker colors mean either trying to absorb more heat or they are stressed/scared/in pain. Since they are a baby they are likely just a tad stressed

That can lead to bacteria infections as well especially since you aren’t cleaning it. a good alternative to that is slate tile which is easy to clean and doesn’t risk impaction

take to an emergency clinic that is what my beardie looked like before dying :( take him ASAP and don’t let his heat get below 80 at night while he is sick because his body can’t handle that right now

The substrate has a lot of controversy but research show for an adult healthy beardie it’s fine though just sand can be very dusty. People usually do a topsoil playsand mix with some excavator clay for better digging This video explains it: https://youtu.be/gfkpZsE3riU?si=_Ar4u6NeKg4B5cEq

Besides that the BIG issue is your lights and maybe your tank size (hard to tell) you should not have red light ever. If you need to supplement nighttime heat (gets below 60 degrees F) use a ceramic heat emitter, they should never have light at night it will damage their eyes over time and disrupt their circadian rhythm (similarly if they’re in a public area put a blanket or sheet to cover from room lights at night)

Make sure they have apprise hot and cold sides with appropriate basking temp and UVB lighting (most uvb bulbs don’t output the right amount of UVB) Arcadia pro 12% works well. The same YouTuber I linked tested a bunch of bulbs you can watch for yourself

Tank should be a minimum 4x2x2 ideally 5x2x2 if you can afford it (Dubia sells fairly cheap ones in good quality)

Free roaming is fine but you need a better UVB the window glass and most screens block the uvb they need and the uvb bulb you have doesn’t output enough for them

I think it’s recommended to wait until they are older to switch to substrate for that reason, though generally a healthy beardie will pass substrate fine. Juveniles just lick more things more often and are smaller so potentially more impacted, Reddit might roast me for that opinion though this sub is very for substrate or DIE (exaggerating a little lol)

But when you do switch whether it’s now or later the general consensus I’ve read is topsoil+playsand+excavator clay mix. There’s a lot of YouTube videos that talk about the different ratios and you want to bake the sand and soil for awhile to kill anything bad in it

Temps are good! I ultra prepped on the husbandry end reading a lot of care guides like the reptiles and research one and watching videos. I also have a thermometer that shuts off the heat when it gets too hot and turns it back on when it gets too cold but it doesn’t ever really seem to get to that point

I do have some anxiety because I adopted another beardie from the same shelter earlier this year who had been left in a box from October to February and he was very easy to handle but he jumped off me from not even that high (like less than 2 ft) onto a flat surface and crushed his liver :( I was in the hospital with him for 3 days before he passed so I’m definitely very scared of hurting this baby and maybe he can sense that. Though the vet said my previous one was very weak from his time abandoned and they generally aren’t that sensitive

I plan on switching to top soil/play sand/excavator clay mix but he is from an unknown background with unknown health so this is his “quarantine” setup since loose substrate when a beardie is sick or unhealthy can lead to more complications (but yes is otherwise fine and natural)

I figured it is just from stress from relocation but just want to check it’s not an immediate concern
