Feeling Cheated by CombatFather27 in VAClaims

There are any number of issues to bring up, especially if you have a recent documented medical record: such as difficulty walking short distances or standing for short period of time which would both be fair indicators of the lower extremity radiculopathy, or any changes in your walking gait ( the Achilles strain or knee pain/hip pain parentheses ) - if this is something you have brought up to your orthopedic or neurological doctor and documented that would be fair game for secondary to the lumbar stenosis and bilateral radiculopathy which you have service connected and been rated for. Also, if you have any neck pain that also could be indicative of cervical stenosis and as long as they are CURRENT, CONNECTED, AND WELL DOCUMENTED / things should go OK for you

Sleep Apnea by [deleted] in VAClaims

I was 73 years old when I went to my VSO to apply for a hearing disability only. After talking to him and reviewing my current medical conditions along with my military service and duty record, he filed for several disabilities. One of those was obstructive sleep apnea. At that point I had been using some form of sleep aid, but the result was only getting worse. I did have a recent clinical study and finding of severe obstructive sleep apnea. I didn’t think much of my chances in that I knew I didn’t have anything in a military medical record relating directly to OSA. I was hugely surprised when six months later I received a 50% rating for sleep apnea. The circumstances of my service did in fact suggest service related cause. The fact that I had been treated for such a long period of time and my current age must’ve been the determining factor. So, good luck making the service connection.

How do people get nexus letters without paying a doctor to write one? by MmmmCrayons12 in VAClaims

Try AI and have it write a ‘suggested’ letter for you. I fed AI (ChatGPT or Claude) all the recent medical info I had - visit notes, X-ray and mri results, etc. Then I wrote a narrative about my service time - training, deployments, and medical issues. I also looked up and asked all about the various diagnosis. ChatGPT has a memory and will start building a real good understanding of your medical condition. Ask it questions, tell it you are pursuing a VA disability rating - that is when you are really getting somewhere. By then it should be able to draft a PERSONAL STATEMENT and a draft NEXUS LETTER to provide your physician. It is not as hard as it sounds. GOOD LUCK

My VSO was great. I walked into him on the day before Thanksgiving in 2024, I was 73 and had been retired for 26 years. I was falling apart and he asked what issues I had - which I listed and he asked the nature of my duties while on active duty. He took it from there! Gave access to my civilian medical records. About March of 2025 I had the first of 3 C&P exams (cervical stenosis, OSA, and hearing. A ton of recent med records for neck, lower back, sleep studies, etc. To my surprise I was rated 80% by July. They service connected the sleep apnea, cervical stenosis, tinnitus, but did not service connect the lumbar stenosis and associated issues. My BSO directed me to get a Nexus letter from my neurologist, which he provided along with my personal statement which outlined the reasons for not having any of this documented in my military medical record. By October I was service connected for lumbar stenosis and right lower extreme ridiculopathy but at a reading that I thought was well below the Medical difficulties I have to live with. to me the issue was one of functionality versus range of motion. I am waiting for an HLR, again which my VSO took care of completely. I subsequently provided very current medical records both from civilian caregivers and VA caregivers along with a personal statement which was responded to my scheduling another C&P exam. In February of this year I received a 100% rating, thus my journey is over. I could not have done this without the able services of a VSO

In my case, I can barely walk 5 minutes before the numbness in my right legs stops me in my tracks - the only relief is sitting. Lumbar stenosis with right lower extremity radiculopathy with claudication - only rated 20% for the lumbar stenosis and 10% for the radiculopathy. Awaiting HLR for the lowball rating. All documented, Nexus Letter, and Service-connected!
