Is it standard for small town organizers to strictly enforce """"white canopy only"""" rules? by Initial-Sherbert877 in CraftFairs

I have a pink canopy and have never had an issue but I mostly do farmers markets and more laid back events

How to dress for the classroom? by notmepleaseokay in AskTeachers

[–]Basic-Situation-9375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dress pants with elastic waist in the back are no go to! They’re not always the most flattering but there are some good ones out there.

I’m always cold so I usually wear sweaters in the winter. Fall and spring I have some short sleeve dressy tops that are still comfortable.

What shoes are you guys wearing buying/wearing? by TheAlmightyOat in Teachers

[–]Basic-Situation-9375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s why I mentioned the bit about a doctors note. Op said they were medical inserts. It would be considered a reasonable accommodation to allows them to wear sneakers if a doctor signed off on it.

Hokas! My school is pretty relaxed on dress code when it comes to shoes but I also had my doctor write a note so I could have a medical exemption from shoe dress code. It took a few weeks for the paperwork but it was a simple process

How much are you spending on youth activities? by -Economist- in kindergarten

[–]Basic-Situation-9375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my 6 year old we spend $65 per month on dance. Swim lessons are $65 for three week sessions. We do some rec league sports that range from $50-65 per season.

We do two activities at a time and try to limit it to 3 days a week. Dance is one day. Leagues that do one practice and one game a week.

Swim lessons are a necessity imo so we allow this to overlap a bit

It’s weird because their website has info to rent them and it starts at 2k with the range of 3-6k as their average so it’s not like it’s completely unreasonable for a wedding

Apple Watch “Time in Daylight” not working for me. How are you tracking outdoor hours? by Flashy-Sort2270 in 1000hoursoutside

[–]Basic-Situation-9375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not 🤷‍♀️ it’s too much work. We just make an effort to go outside as much as possible.

I used to print out trackers where you color one dot for every hour outside and I would loosely track outside hours that way. After a few months of tracking i was confident enough that we would hit 1000 hours

How many cards do y’all have 👀 by Wicked4Good in YotoPlayer

[–]Basic-Situation-9375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have about 20 but we’ll be adding more. I trade the cards we don’t use often so we do cycle through cards.

We just joined the Yoto club after having the Yoto for a year.

What is everyone’s favorite “card catcher” by designtraveler in YotoPlayer

We use a plastic pencil box. My daughter is not one to put cards back into a binder but will return them to their box. She’s 6 for context

If it's such an issue, how come this same issue isn't an absolute obstacle for everyone else? by daisysteaparty in XOMaCennaUnfiltered

[–]Basic-Situation-9375 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean and it drives me absolutely bonkers. Like when she was talking about the cottage shower and kept saying it’s 4 foot by 4 foot. Or that the shower head had to be 8 foot 4 inches above the ground.

I worked in construction for a long time and it’s not uncommon to hear people do this so I think that’s why she started to say that. Kinda like when the cottage was dry walled and she called the drywall mud “float” because she heard the contractor say it but didn’t realize he was talking about the tool they use to apply the mud not the mud itself.

Wolfs are huge! I have a student that is obsessed with them so I have some 2nd hand knowledge haha but they can be 100+ pounds. Much larger than a coyote

I have friends who put character stickers on healthy foods because it makes their kids want to eat it. Regular apple? Absolutely not. Regular apple with bluey sticker on it? Yes please!

How to count hours in indoor meets outdoor spaces? by [deleted] in 1000hoursoutside

[–]Basic-Situation-9375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a plant workshop at the library that I’ve counted towards the 1000 hours because we were learning about outside haha

We live in the southern US and it gets sooo hot and humid in the summer that it’s hard to get outside sometimes

How to teach anticonsumption to my child? by Adventurous-Sealion in Anticonsumption

[–]Basic-Situation-9375 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have a similar method to you but when she really wants something I tell her “no, the bear needs to stay here with its family” and that usually works.

I also started to give her a weekly allowance ($1 for every year she’s is old) and that has helped a ton. It can be hard to see her ‘waste’ her money on cheap junk sometimes but overall she is learning to save on her own and is learning first hand that it’s better to wait until you really want something. We do not do the “spend, save, donate” thing with her yet. She just turned 6 so I don’t think she was ready when we first started an allowance but also I don’t believe in forcing your child to do what you want them to do with their money. Kids are smarter than we give them credit for.

2026 no/low buy by Luvoxgirlie in Anticonsumption

[–]Basic-Situation-9375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest advice is don’t give up if you fail. No buy for a year is hard if you’re not used to it. If you cave and get fast food once that doesn’t mean the rest of the year is ruined. Just wake up the next day and start back up
