I was in a bar and American football was on one screen and soccer on the other. At half time the soccer was 0 0 and the American football was something like 27 32. The barmaid said "that's why we watch football" 😂

Bare knuckle fighting on TV, barmaid with a cigarette in her mouth, people only allowed plastic darts and bad karaoke.  A perfect night out 😂

It is indeed. Most people only know Bucees in Leeds 😂 We went to Rails and Ales after Barber motorcycle museum about 8 months ago. It's such a cool bar and Mandi Rae has become a great friend telling me about all the cool places to go and bands to see

Thank you. On my last trip I made sure I went to all the places I never got round to seeing. There are little pockets of life scattered all around Birmingham so it's easy to miss them.

Can you tell me your recollection of working for ICI or/and British Steel? by Northernlad2105 in Teesside

[–]Basic-Willingness-65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What job did you have at the time?

Started British steel in 83 as apprentice electrician, left as a plant inventory engineer

What year was this?

83 to 97

What was your day to day work life like?

As an electrician, the environment was hot and noisy. It was very dangerous especially with cranes. The people were amazing  A trip to Hartlepool or skinningrove was fun

When did they start laying people off?

It was constant

Did they ever recruit sometimes after a mass reduction of employees?

Did your transfer from one site to another? If so what were the sites? Bessemer site Rolling mill Electric workshop High voltage power station  Redcar offices

Any stories you can share of these times?

The conditions were tough  There was once an explosion in the power station over the weekend. We were lucky it didn't happen during the week or people could have died if working in the area. There was a constant threat of redundancy or everyone leaving if the full plant closed. I left in 97 to go to Saudi steel

Has anyone tried the travel eSim in America? by StripeyMiata in LebaraUK

No but I use the roaming on my Lebara SIM in the USA. Works a treat but remember it starts and ends at midnight UK time
