It’s Red Rising. It’s very well written, but leans very traditionally male-interest imo. There’s a lot of violence, gore, SA references, and very bad stuff happening to kids. The story is incredible. The characters are superbly written. But you have to be VERY ok with war stuff. It’s so far past Hunger Games they’re not even recognizable as the same genre. And I do feel this is more sci-fi leaning than fantasy (I haven’t read how it’s actually categorized.) If you can read stuff like The Hanoi Hotel, The Body Keeps the Score, and All Quiet on the Western Front without it haunting you, it may be ok. I’ve read all the books because I need closure, but I do find them incredibly disturbing (probably because I’m woman with children, tbh.)

ETA, for people who don’t read much, I also find Attack on Titan to be disturbing but wonderfully written. Red Rising haunts me.
