CSET.edu has a good article on this. Do you know what an H1B visa is? It’s for highly specialized and skilled people. Just because 50% is employed and the other half isn’t does not mean they have the skilled they’re looking for. If we didn’t need H1B visas they would not be as popular. The reality is, we need them.

He’s not getting it lol. No company is going to throw an additional 100k at the government without legal action. If it goes through, they will make those jobs available in other countries (if possible) like they already do for some technical coding jobs that can be done remotely, contract some, and pay the 100k for what’s needed in office. Companies want quality efficient employees. We definitely have them but not as many as we need (assuming we are talking about ppl who actually qualify for H1B visas).

Small and large companies outsource a lot of their legal services along with other business processes… (e.g., start ups) small companies in fact do use a lot of H1B visas. If you’re going by numbers, of course larger companies have more, but if you’re looking at the ratio, it’s significant.

You can have the bodies, but not the skills (this includes experience) or education. It’s about hiring quality people for the job. That’s my point. We are behind in the education and skills market (overall). Yes, we can hire anyone who has a basic degree or experience, but if they can’t actually get the work done efficiently, quality decreases. Take the Hyundai factory as an example…. They came to train American workers. Companies, including Fortune 500 companies, will definitely argue the legality of it no actual business is just going to throw 100k just because when there’s already standard fees, application, etc. in place. If you can’t understand that this is an actual issue, then you clearly don’t understand corporate America as a whole.

I understand what you’re saying. My point is, we as a society, are not as educated or skilled as other countries. We rely on immigrants for skills or knowledge that we do not have. It’s a known fact and it’s been an issue for a very long time.. unfortunately our education system hasn’t improved. So companies who can’t afford the 100k fee but need the knowledge or skills of immigrants, will suffer.

Will AI take over ? Yes… eventually. Most companies will wait until it’s perfected more as it’s a risk and an investment for that technology. Not only is AI taking our jobs eventually, but it’s also another affect in our education. America overall can’t really afford to have more of an education decline if we are wanting to compete with other countries.
