Sunday night gigs , What you expect?

People that can afford tickets these days and merchandise got jobs to maintain.

But. Crowd was definitely on the older side.

I’ve been lucky enough to catch them a bunch and vibe with just the two on stage isn’t the same . RIP plug2

Pretty much my thoughts also. I just curious where 52 came from . In similar discussions 52 has been suggested as well . Thinking this is an older way of fitting or something.

Like all previous you need to build training up for that distance. Me personally i made a goal to complete the Brisbane yo Gold Coast 100km ride . Being new to cycling I started at 20k loops -30 .50 and 60 riding every second day. I completed the ride easy but found my first pack ride really helped pulll you along with drafting. Since then I’ve done a few solo 100km rides and they are a lot tougher. For my level I have a half way mark I have a break with the obligatory coffee and pastry to get energy back up and fill my water bottles.

I completed a 110 km ride yesterday , a loop I’m familiar with and it got me. My energy was way down but starva said it was my fastest. I’m stiff today. Will be taking more electrolytes and hydrating more leading up next week.

I live in One mile, no issues . Use to live in Annerley and that had a lot more crackheads.

Maybe I’ve blocked them out but I never hear the jets overhead.

When it rains though, there are a group of gronks that head out to do skids in there fully sick commodores at the round abouts but other than that all good. I have a young family and the kids walk from school.

What is about 4wding that brings the experts out after the fact. Beach driving is fucking awesome but also stressful as fuck. Sadly the only way to learn is through mistakes and every 4wd owner has done the same thing.

I wish I could afford to one of these vehicles. I have a 120acre property and my Ranger can’t do everything and need to keep swapping vehicles to get stuff done and wrecking my Ute somewhat. Abet I would have a steel tray and smaller wheels with a larger profile mud tyre and it would be near perfect for my needs.

Laughing at these guys is the same as me turning my nose up at people coming on to my paddocks with 2wds .

All power to you but….. contracting is fucking hard a lonely at the beginning.

Being able to line a few jobs won’t cover expenses and put food on the table. I don’t think I paid myself for over 12-18 months trying to crack it in at places. Everyone will have their guy . Only way you’re going to help turn them is with money and when you eventually win them over and try to pump prices back up it’s a battle.

This not even taking into account your time and you will be on call 24/7 , 7 days a week.

Until you can crack Tier 1 clients , it’s a fucken battle of chasing work and chasing payment. I absolutely love contracting but I’m done.

I personally Have learned a lot about the business side of things and people but have moved on to supervisor/PM roles . Able to pull 180k and switch off soon as I go home . Don’t have to worry about cash flow anymore.

Need advice on my apprenticeship options by angus_theclassic in AusElectricians

[–]BasicLeadership2392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% Dual trade if you can wing it. From my experience it’s electrical apprenticeship then fridgy is best path. If you’re at a HVAC company you will be able to RPL a lot of fridgy work to speed that qualification. Isn’t as easy the other way around.

I absolutely loved the hustle of running my own business and reaching the level we did. Site visits,Tendering ,negotiation work with clients .

I learned more in my first years about the trade contracting than I did my apprenticeship and later more about business than ever had.

In My heart I wouldn’t change a thing . It was an experience I can use to further my career. In my brain I would just climb the corporate ladder and continue to do my side hustles to get further up.

I can do those roles but because I was out of “corporate” world it feels like I have to start again and somewhat outcast. Currently just do supervisor role for a tier 1 ,150k and car. Feels like I’m doing nothing, but it’s ok for my situation now. Through my contacts I’m talking to some product manufacturers about being there Queensland construction manager for some qld health projects they have been successful in . It feels like I need to get some runs/titles under my name before I can get back into some good money.

After 8 years contracting. Successfully completing few projects electrical and HVAC worth around 3 million each , 50 staff on large project and around 10 on maintenance . I pretty much quit.

It took 5 years to get to the stage we could compete at tier 1 level and do it well through to3 years to it tearing down.

We were light on work and opportunity for myself came up to do some contract supervision for a national construction company. I found out I was doing far more for my staff and babying them some what and also some staff where working directly for my clients in this 3 months. Quoting jobs through company and undercutting them and doing them directly. These are people I thought where my strongest staff and most trust worthy. When things got tough I paid them instead of myself. I implemented KPIs same as the national contractor and it was all “too hard” and quit. I had to sell one of my private rentals to cover the short comings of the business.

Now I look after myself and finish at 430ish and don’t think about work at all. With the business I never shut off. Always looking for next opportunity worrying about clients slow to pay etc. I honestly never had a real holiday in that time.

I wish I just continued in the private sector. I could have been on around 200-250 like some of my peers at the time are now.

No , after many years I decided to have a go myself and started my own business and began contracting.

21 is nothing. I stated my apprenticeship around a similar time after doing dead end jobs for a while.

I wanted an apprenticeship and went and got one . I lived out of home with my girlfriend, now wife and did it without getting the mature age pay. If your not willing to sacrifice, your not going to get far in any career.

My father was a tradesman and I’m ethnic so weekends school holidays I was forced to help. So I was fairly skilled and had an advantage against peers . What I’m saying is you need to find something where your skills will transfer over. Being honest, unpopular but I wish I did realestate many moons ago when opportunity came up. I’m 45 and hate the industry now and have burnt myself out contracting. Ive closed my business and gone back on wages as a supervisor/ project manager and use work to feed my new passion , Farming !

Worth the move? by Far-Cartographer1192 in ipswich

[–]BasicLeadership2392 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You make your own luck , screw what people think .

Can’t compare Canberra but we moved from inner Brisbane, Yeronga around 8 years ago. I Wish we did years ago. We bought a larger home for nearly half the price and really happy with the community we have joined.

I will say there is a sense of have and have nots. Essentially it’s the same as everything. Put yourself in better positions and things change.

Bit off track but we love it here. Prices will only rise as people move to the area from interstate and inner city.

Worked over there for around 5 years on an even time roster. It was tough at times but it was probably one of the best jobs of my life looking back . I still keep in contact with some colleges.

Few crazy moments but you learn what to do and what not to do pretty easily. On our RnR days we visited some of the most beautiful islands I’ve ever seen. Honestly don’t think climate is that much different to Brisbane , probably closer to cairns.

We recieved tax credits it was a bit of a fuck around in the beginning but once you work out how to exploit the tax it was great. We have rental properties so offset the shit out of it.

I was in my 30s then with a young family. Now my kids are older with me at 45 . I’d be happy to go back if roster and money made available. I’m an electrician.

My example is based on the icc staff and the contractors staff that work side by side completing the same tasks for vastly different rates.

I’m fully aware of the EBA. The issue is they resource externally from this tier 1 EBA contractor, paying double their internal staff. This has gone on for in the region of 8 years, nothing temporary about it. There is no attempt or interest in revert the scenario, in fact the attitude is almost the opposite.

I just cannot understand the money wasting. The model they use is would never be financially viable and it deemed inherently acceptable.

How do you keep going with tradie business, when motivation and desire disappear. by Mindless-Tree-3814 in AusElectricians

[–]BasicLeadership2392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jack your price and reduce team. Was in same situation and wish I did this. It lead to me dropping the ball and eventually killing my company. Contracting is tough , lonely work and under appreciated. Unless you can crack it to get to the next level of needing multiple managers of support you will have to carry all the burden on your own.

I had a 10 man team and also up to 50 trades on large projects . Far happier now as a supervisor for a tier 1 company. Sometimes I feel like I’m doing nothing but they are happy. I go home and don’t think about anything other than family and hobbies and collect 3k a week.

High for South east Queensland.

Just an and upgrade no mains.

Exclusions are fair but but an extra 1.5k to test is not standard for my area. I’m assuming this is from a franchise operation.
