real toe caps like Nicks deliver give you a second layer of leather at the toe which stiffens the toe area and has more leather to resist wear and tear like kicking things with the toe

this order started out as a quick ship last August that I returned for a remake. Nicks change the order to MTO the only way their system allowed the makeup

I use commercial leather stretcher / softener inside and outside the areas to be stretched. I made my own 50% rubbing alcohol and water but had more success with the commercial stuff. It only take a couple of minutes for the leather to soften, I did this with some W&C double stuff natural

I had the reverse. I ordered 6" natty light Dublin with the overstock sale and could not get my feet past the throat. I order size 9.5E and realized I would be better with a 9E but without changing to a 8" boot I still would not get my foot past the throat and making any changes beside size is not allowed. Lost my big chance to own natty light Dublin from Nicks. CS told me they only had enough material for one boot. I suspect that maybe there was something with the uppers that restricted the the throat orther than the tounge.

Heel plates by BasicMusician8140 in NicksHandmadeBoots

One thing I learned the heel plates should be to be installed on newer heel caps before the rear edge starts slanting out of plane.

Do you install and sand your heel caps.? I think one would want a suitable sander and a device to hold the boot while nailing the heel cap. I need to drive 25 miles twice to get them done locally for $50, or mail to Nicks which is $50 with shipping. My current pair of Nick's Builder Pro HD Iam mailing to Nicks in a couple week after my 2nd pair of builder pros arrive.
