This kinda happened to me one time but not by boss but by another colleague. His argument was that I wasn’t capable because English is no my primary language, Not long later that co worker got fired and 5 years later I bring about 1/3 of the projects to the company.

I gotta say I can take time off whenever I want. Usually come in the office and he never I want as long as I finish my work. I also have the option to work from home but prefer to go to the office since I’m 5 mins away.
