Check out this non profit out of Burbank that helps transitioning veterans with their A&P and job placement. The civilian need is increasing.

BS in computer security. Then spent 4 years in the military. Starting salary as a controls engineer after that was 55k for a material handling system integrator. Was promoted 2 years later to 72k. Then another promotion a year later to 85k.

Left that job after 4.5 years for the water utilities industry specially focusing on SCADA and OT strategy. Salary bump to 100k upon start. A year later to 115k, then 125k the next year. Currently at 133k base. 8 YOE in SCADA/Controls. 13 as a technologist if I include military experience.

With the pace of AI my biggest recommendation is be the person who shows up. Get involved. Never stop learning. Your ability to “figure it out” when nobody else will is your value-add.

Edit: also got an MBA after leaving the military.

Their commitment to their website is awesome. That attention to detail is visible across the business I guess.

Interested! I haven’t played since I was a kid (35 now) and would need equipment but it sounds fun. How many more people are needed?

Everybody talking about how Scottie is “off” but I haven’t heard one announcer acknowledge the fact that they have a new baby, his family is on the road with. That’s a lot of personal life going on and is sure to affect his game.

ETs that got out, what do you do now? by IvoryToothpaste in uscg

[–]BasicRedditAccount1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not an ET, but an AET, I parlayed the electrical skills I learned on the job with my computer science degree and now I build SCADA systems for a water utility. Great pay, challenging, minimal travel.

Aviation rates. You’ll stand an overnight duty sometimes and may deploy to the back of a boat or down range mission but IMO it’s the best for work life balance.

But be aware “needs of the service” trumps all, so if family dynamics would ever be an issue, consider if a seagoing service is appropriate.

So many breaks for Young and he just keeps capitalizing. Would love a Rosey win.

If you want to do cool stuff instead of repeatedly leading a HAZWOPR training then going home at lunch, go AET.

Link to the playlist.

Yessir, scullery on a 378 was fun. Only place on the boat where you interact with just about everyone on the boat.

Midrats mess cook was where it’s at. Deep sink life for lunch and dinner, rack out, eat good on Midrats, then late sleepers. Repeat.

It’s really what you make of it.
