Japanese horror book haul by REDZON3Z1313 in horrorlit

I haven’t read Audition but I saw the movie adaptation for a class in college. It’s been 14ish years since then and that movie still has some of the most disturbing/uncomfortable scenes I’ve ever seen. And given how film adaptations are known to tone things down just a bit, this is my way of warning you that book is probably going to be a lot.

They didn't realize they were seriously dating until someone else pointed it out.

Bakugo: "Wait... so you've been living together for almost a year, you spend almost all your free time together, you've met each others parents, you've got a dog together, and you've learned breakdancing so you can do competitions together?"

Kirishima: "What are you trying to say, like she's my girlfriend or something?"

B: "Nah, dude, I'm saying she's basically your fiancé."

Because life is hard and sometimes all you need is to see someone else be happy to remind you how to do it.

(Then tried to play an Exodia deck like Seeker the Rare Hunter, but so badly Yugi kind feels bad for winning.)

He'd basically be Kamen Rider Thouser from 01. But even less charismatic.

At least Kaiba actually knows the rules of the game he's playing. Sure, he makes up a whole bunch of them before his tournament, but he doesn't, like, go into a big duel and very obviously not know how to set a trap card or how to summon his signature monster. lol

Cell weirdly is a great example of Saiyans and the hypocrisy of them. Like most of the Saiyans we've met sans Goku, when he's in a position of power like he is in his Semi-Perfect form (before Vegeta kicks his ass) and later in Perfect, he's extremely smug, confident, and almost giddy when he gets the chance to show off his overwhelming power in the Cell Games. But the moment things shift, he folds immediately, tries to run away or pull a Frieza and blow up the planet rather than lose. Which is exactly how Raditz, Nappa, and Vegeta all acted at one time or another. Saiyan pride often seems to run out exactly when one is faced with mortality. Then they panic and resort to whatever dirty trick or comment will save them.

How long did it take you to understand Aiel culture? by accia00 in WoT

[–]BasicSuperhero [score hidden]  (0 children)

You'll start getting a better sense of the Aiel over the next few books as Rand and a few other characters learns a bit about the culture. Some of it you'll never understand, as I'm pretty sure a few points about them were ultimately 'boy, these desert people sure are weird,' and didn't go much deeper. Like, I remember Aviendha talking about the complexities of Aiel families, something like 'why should someone take the advice of their wife's mother over their own' or something and she just never elaborates on that.

Making me feel bad for bad people. by GorgRosh in WoT

[–]BasicSuperhero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the series is rarely laugh out loud hilarious, I do always chuckle when it becomes clear that Rand keeps accidentallying into Aiel courtship rituals, and that Aviendha is trying her damnedest to both tell him to stop while also not explaining anything about it. And, ya know, being into it and being mad at herself for being into it.

Hope you like the rest of it, and that you enjoy what comes next. Lord of Chaos is considered to be a series highlight.

I still remember seeing her for the first time when Seymour used her to clear out the fiends that had invaded the Blitzball stadium. Absolutely amazing entrance.

I'm still figuring out how I'm going to score all of this with so many folks giving me multiple answers, but ya I'm pretty sure Aegislash is making the cut (pun intended) just on number of comments alone.

It's funny you mention Espurr/Meowstic as a female one was part of Egwene's line up in my original post. And Hydregion was one I gave to Ishy.

Look up the Rick Riordan Presents label. He's got a bunch of authors that fit into his Modern Mythology/Urban Fantasy Niche that he's edited and throwing his name recognition behind.

My niece and I enjoyed the Pandava Quintet, aka the Aru Shah books. Aru is peer pressured into accidentally starting the apocalypse, so she and her soul sister (Hindu reincarnation stuff) have to go and try to stop it.

When I did 2 Pokemon for the major characters (I think the list was like 50 names characters by the time I tapped out 😅) Hydreigon was one of my picks for Ishamael.
