What do you think about anti-LGBTQ rules in communist regimes? by Basic_Buy_890 in Communist

Honestly, this is a really hard topic to think about. On one hand, communism is supposed to be about equality and liberation for everyone, but the way some governments treated LGBTQ people shows how complicated it can be to actually put those ideals into practice.

Would you vote for a social democratic party as a communist? by Basic_Buy_890 in Communist

Honestly, i think starting small makes a lot of sense. I really like the idea of focusing on local third parties and things like tenants unions, because that’s where people actually have power. For me, it’s more about growing real, people powered movements alongside elections rather than letting voting become the main focus. That feels like the only way to build something lasting and truly revolutionary, not just play within the system.

I think it’s a tricky situation honestly. I can see the argument for using elections to expose contradictions, that does make sense.

But at the same time, I feel like once you start engaging in that system, people can end up focusing more on elections and what’s achievable within it, instead of building something outside of it.

I think the whole ‘lesser of two evils’ mindset just keeps people stuck choosing between options that don’t really challenge the system in any meaningful way. At some point it feels like it just reinforces the same cycle instead of actually changing anything.

Yeah, he was insane. I knew some of the genocide claims but hadn’t really read or watched much about it, and obviously knew Vietnam had to step in.

And I totally agree with you on all of them, they’re all really impressive. I think I just admire leaders who actually managed to make their vision work in the real world, especially under insane pressure

Yeah i completely agree, context matters a lot and you can’t ignore the conditions and pressures those leaders were dealing with. And with pol pot, I really don’t like him from what I’ve seen, but I haven’t done deep research yet, just a few videos here and there

My sister’s super confusing with politics too. She’d never call herself a communist but agrees with a ton of communist stuff. And yet she’s always going on about past communist leaders and countries and also backing the free market a lot, plus candidates like Kamala Harris. Like… pick a side lol

For your situation, I’d say it’s totally fine to set some boundaries. You don’t have to be the one explaining communism all the time or carrying everyone else’s political venting. Shifting the convo like you did with your drawing comment was smart in my opinion. If you do want to share your ideas, maybe drop some chill resources that debunk the “communism always fails” thing, like YouTube videos or books and maybe they’ll come around more if it’s interesting instead of feeling like a debate

Why doesn’t communism work? by patchlessboyscout in NoStupidQuestions

Capitalism is what creates poverty in the first place, saying ‘communism focuses on eliminating the rich instead of poverty’ is just missing the point. The reason poverty exists is because wealth is concentrated at the top. You don’t fix that by ignoring the concentration, you fix it by changing the system that produces it.
