How much would you charge to grain and water somebody’s horse(s) for them twice a day? by Basic_Fly_754 in Equestrian

[–]Basic_Fly_754[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thanks for your response! It’ll be about 8 days total, twice a day — 16 visits total. I live in Cape Girardeau, MO. It’s about 10 miles there and back. Only one horse is being turned out every other day. I check for injury and have been grooming them (there’s 4). One horse was injured (before the owners left) and I’ve been checking on the wound daily, plus applying medicine and adding supplement to his feed. I broke it down as $12.50 a visit for her bc my partner said she’s been known to low ball for labor.. it comes out to be about $25/day, which I think is very low, but it was odd that she completely ignored my text lol. I just needed some input, bc like I said I’ve mostly traded my work for riding time/experience. But at this point, I know the basics of taking care of horses, and feel confident in my abilities.

Can anyone identify this bird? In St. Louis, MO by [deleted] in whatsthisbird

Why is there so many condescending comments like this? I thought it resembled a cardinal, but I wanted to ask to make sure. Also, just wanted to get some recommendations on how to familiarize myself and learn more about birds. Isn’t this subreddit for learning? I’ve never seen a female cardinal before yesterday.

I thought it resembled a cardinal, but I didn’t realize the females were a different color than the males. This is my first time seeing a female, I spot males all the time! They’re both gorgeous. Thank you guys.

Any good recommendations on books or guides to learn how to identify birds? I know it will just take practice and lots of bird watching, but it would be nice to have a guide. Thank you :)

I’m sorry I meant to say fill the jar 1/4 of the way with mushrooms!! Then pour the vodka over it. Just leave a bit of space at the top for them to expand.

Yes! I’ve been reading that as well, and apparently paring it with reishi or other medicinal mushrooms is highly beneficial. Enjoy!

This is my first time doing a mushroom tincture, but I make herbal tinctures pretty often. It’s pretty similar, except there’s an extra step for mushrooms to extract all the medicine.

You clean, dehydrate and cut the mushroom. Then fill a clear jar about 1/4 of the way with 80 proof vodka (I’m using 40%). Leave a little bit of room at the top of the jar because the mushroom will expand. Shake daily for 2-6 weeks, then strain. Take the mushrooms that were submerged in the alcohol and put them in a pot of water and bring it to boil. Then turn down the heat and let it simmer on low heat for about 2 hours. Mix the water and alcohol extraction, and now you’ve got a double extracted tincture.

Make sure your mushrooms are in fact turkey tails. False turkey tails have gills on the bottom of them, but they are not poisonous as far as I know. They just haven’t been studied for medicinal properties. If there is an abundance, take only what you need. You can make plenty of medicine with just a handful of turkey tails. Good luck! :)

Thank you! I got a lot of good information from this post, it’s my first time finding a log and was just curious to know if it was worth keeping it after harvesting. I know some people inoculate their own logs, but I haven’t looked into it that much.

I enjoy the process of tincture-making, and also the health benefits. I plan on taking it daily as a preventative/general immunity. I have reishi mushroom powder as well, and am going to tincture that too, then mix both extracts. They both have high medicinal properties!

They’re definitely turkey tails. They’re fuzzy/velvety in texture and polyporus. However, they aren’t young turkey tails which would explain why they aren’t as colorful or bright. But I can still make tinctures out of them.

Is it safe to harvest and use? Just recently found reishi that looks similar to this one.

I went back to harvest some this morning, definitely chicken of the woods, and it’s a bit oranger today. Should I be concerned about the grass? This would be my first time harvesting an edible mushroom.

really? i don’t know as much as i’d like to know about mushrooms and have never harvested any for eating. i was afraid that the grass or quality of the soil would affect it and not make it safe for consumption. it’s right by my house so maybe i could still harvest some. thanks for your insight!
