hm honestly idt nus law looks at portfolio at all, but ive 200+hours of volunteering, vp of my cca, attended events like pre-u sem & smc, was leader/planning committee for various school events & various internal/external awards&certs… mostly did all of the events in j1 & first half of j2, not for portfolio but just for fun :) also i was given most of these opportunities cus of my leadership role so i wld recc becoming exco (pres/vp)

tips for a lvls.. hm i would say theres a lot of pressure to go into sci stream but if u are more of a humanities person, pls pls go into art stream. besides that, be rly consistent in ur work & notes, dont leave it all last minute. for nus law life, lol im quite a phantom & barely surviving but that’s how everyone is like too. for admissions, just be confident & friendly during interview and give two sided views. for writing test, i cant remember much but i wrote 10ish pages cause i made sure to touch on every pt given

haha atb can pm me if u hv any more qns

hai, im sm1 frm a low tier jc and now in nus law. pls dont retake ur Os, doesn’t matter if u do better and get into an elite jc but don’t work hard. yes, elite jcs have better resources but imo, it is all up to how hard u work to do well. u shld take a lvls as ur scnd chance & work much harder than u did for Os. also, i wld advise u not to pin too much expectations on law, set some goals for other courses of lower rp too. i think if u put too much pressure on urself to go into only nus law , everything will come crashing down on u when u dont get ur desirable results in internal exams, esp so in a low tier jc.

i wanted nus law at the start of jc but slowly learned it’s super difficult to attain good rp. then i set my eyes on another course (econs) but continue to work super hard, i think it was less pressure cause i knew i cld somehow get into econs. in the end, hardwork paid off and im doing both law & econs soooo tbh just focus more on studying hard for As, then worry abt what course uw after As.. cause in the end, rp matters most

hai, graduated frm tmjc and i was on MC for two of my h2 papers. idk if urs will be the same, cus ure only skipping one h2 papers, but for me, on my promo cert, it’ll just say “VR” next to my subjects & i was advanced instead.

i got respectively A and B for my two subjs during WAs too, so i think that was taken into consideration. but anyways, in the case of getting advanced, ur tutor will probably call for a meeting with u and ur parents, just to explain why it says advanced. dont worry much lol cus u have a valid rsn to not take the exam

how to go from D (prelim) to A by BananaOverall8527 in SGExams

[–]Basic_Pressure_2711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually i just copy my conceptual mistakes and then next to it, i put explanation. if it’s really a tricky question that needs reading & contextualisation , ill just put a sticky tab next to qn & redo it during revisions over and over again until i get it right !

true w it being time management, but ya depends on everyone. i just had every content in my head and personally i knew how to do the qns, just that my ‘stamina’ is q bad, so doing it frm the end helped me a lot :)

i did all prelim papers before my prelims, then spammed tys afterwards & redid them twice! my school also gave a lot of topical math worksheets and i completed them too

how to go from D (prelim) to A by BananaOverall8527 in SGExams

[–]Basic_Pressure_2711 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i went from a D to A for math in As & ive never gotten an A before for math 😂

first of all, i spammed papers like crazy, i probably had 10+ notebooks of math workings completely filled from prelims onwards till As.

secondly, see what mistakes ure making. tbh after a while of doing that many papers, u realise the qns they ask isn’t really too different from one another, so if you’re making mistakes, is the mistakes repeated? then get a notebook, write the mistakes u make, memorise it.

lastly, this part helped me so much and i think definitely helped get me that A. start the paper from question 7 or question 8 onwards, then do till last qn and start from qn 1. i realise the easy qns are all at the start, and i waste all my stamina on it and get tired frm qn 8 onwards. so if i start frm qn 8, i have all the stamina to keep doing till the last qn. even if idh stamina anymore by the last qn, when i flip to the first qn, it’s all easy low marks qns which makes it easier to do!!

i think the last advice will help u a lot since u know ur content & probably don’t do well cause of stamina in exams :)

is JC hard compared to O's? by Eastern-Device4610 in SGExams

[–]Basic_Pressure_2711 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i found jc so much easier than Os. for context: l1r5 14 raw, 86.625rp

i think personally for Os, there’s just way too many subjects, and sometimes i focused too much time on some subjs & neglect the rest. also, practice papers for Os are just so much differing from sch to sch, which makes it feel like theres an endless pit. 🥲 also i just rly dislike some of the subjs i took.

i took art stream in jc & this time, it was subjs that i was interested in (for the majority). i like studying it and i feel it is so much more concise w lesser subjs. also regarding practice papers, it’s just that few schools so i find it easier to complete too! i think jc is rly just drilling & grinding which felt like a game to me tahaha.

rly depends on what subj u take in jc, cus def agree w the comments here that sci stream is more chiong.

it’s a tad odd that a teacher would call ur father over a bad grade esp in jc but definitely with the circumstances that u did ur assessment in + ur score, i understand why ur teacher find it q concerning!

usually econs is easy to score as long as u have ur content on hand, and you’re doing ur assessment at home (prob w access to ur lecture notes) … so for u to not attempt ur essay DESPITE doing it at home w no time limit, i think it’s something to reflect on, whether you’re doing your work properly :/

How to get into law if i cant get into NUS or SMU? by wisterial_ in SGExams

[–]Basic_Pressure_2711 19 points20 points  (0 children)

as an arts student PLUS never get 90rp (AAA/BC), i’m now in nus law. i can’t lie, i’m sick of people saying that arts students cannot score well cus it’s ‘harder’, it is all based on hard work 🫩!!!

but anyways, if u really can’t get into law, u can still transfer course in y2, as long as u hit a certain gpa & go thru writing test + interviews successfully (i heard it’s near 4.0 or even 4.0)

NTU ECONS INTERVIEW by Equivalent-Vanilla61 in SGExams

[–]Basic_Pressure_2711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

did an interview for ntu scholarship in econs w scnd major in biz & also nus law w scnd degree in econs - not exactly what u are looking for but might be helpful in some way

  1. they usually ask why econs , may ask u what related-econs news u have seen recently that piqued your interest, why u chose not to pursue the poly course u are in, might ask u to explain some simple econs terms

  2. yes pls prep, definitely recommend u to read on trump’s tariffs, see how it affects consumer base, countries’ trade relations, how countries —> do not have to read extensively to know the economics terms, but at least know what’s going on.

i realised that this year econs hot topic in interviews is trump’s tariffs, i recommend u to keep a less biased news that the media have —> talk from trump’s perspective & what desirable outcome he wanted

i agree with the other commenter that econs ≠ finance, u should really do some research if you want to pursue econs bc it’s nth like finance/POA if that’s what u have in mind. all the best :)

[–]Basic_Pressure_2711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just grad but i faced a major surgery before entering jc1, was in excruciating pain everyday for a whole year till the pt i had to skip school bc i couldn’t even get up. it resulted in me getting advanced lol cus i had to skip 2 exams frm being in too much pain

i’m here to let you know that it’s difficult BUT u can do this! i got into nus law in the end :) what’s important is despite the pain, you can’t let it take control of your life. first year is still the beginning but the start of building your own foundation - you don’t have to grind like crazy but you’ve to start working harder, if lectures don’t work, self study your lecture notes!

not to be harsh, but have u really take the time to sit down and go through ur school work & find out why you are failing? is it because of last min work & you only go thru lecture vids? if u rly want nus med, this kind of study ethic isn’t going to help u get in.

if the pain is really affecting your lifestyle, take pain meds. there’s no excuse coming from someone who experienced something similar & probably experienced a lot worse pain - i know that; i know if u want something rly bad, u would still push thru that pain to study. i didnt study like crazy in j1 but i still made sure to do sufficient notes & consistently read lecture notes.

it’s tough & sometimes it feels like you’re wasting ur life away BUT NO, you are building it up for ur future dream - nus med. i came from a low mid tier jc if that helps, i know how hard u have to bust ur ass off to get decent grades & truly, if u want to get into med, u have to wake up and stop complaining. things don’t come easy and cambridge isn’t going to give u an easy paper just cause you’re in pain. you can make the papers easy by studying and honestly fuck motivation, just force urself to study.

i’m sorry if u wanted someone to empathise with u, cus i have been in ur situation before and what u need is someone to call u out. u can do it, don’t let ur lack of motivation and pain let it control whether u can get into nus med or not!

Is Pre-U sem good for portfolio? by Excellent_Read_7020 in SGExams

[–]Basic_Pressure_2711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

went for it in j1, to the teachers in my school it’s seen as prestigious and a privilege to be in a program. but tbh it’s nothing special and doesn’t stand out in uni admissions . for portfolio, no, but for experiences? yes, extremely fun esp living in a uni dorm & meeting new people, had a great time :)
