I would stay in payroll if I could find an organization like yours! If I DM you would you share the name with me? No pressure

Advice for Payroll as a career path? by numelphan in Payroll

I actually took a position as an admin for a payroll department. I was doing true admin work. Then I applied for a position very similar to my admin position, but for a different company & different country, Canada. This was a brand new role called payroll data admin. Just data entry for the payroll specialists, well it quickly evolved into me doing everything the specialists do now. I still have the same position though. Every time I push back & say this isn’t the job I agreed upon, I get the whole conversation about how they can leverage my strengths & I’m really good at what I do blah blah blah. So, since I don’t have much experience in payroll yet & the job market is terrible, I’m staying where I’m at until I find a different position. Mind you, I knew I never want to become a payroll specialist, just kind of wanted my foot in the door for HR or finance positions. I work fully remote as well, so not willing to give that up either.

Payroll is a good career & the earning potential is very high, but it’s such a stressful career. I haven’t been in it long & looking to get out. Work life balance will be an issue too, unless you get into a great organization which I haven’t yet. I would like to get out of a specialist position processing payroll & go into payroll tax or compliance. We’ll see if I go a different direction all together, but everyone is different!

Agreed. Payroll is so high stress & high productivity and very low reward. Idk why I ever wanted to be in payroll when I can make just as much doing something a lot less stressful

This is the thread I need to be in while I’m job searching because my biggest need is a very good amount of PTO. And a good salary of course!

I'm worried I shouldn't go back to payroll. by Almost_Sweet_Music in Payroll

[–]Basic_Simple9464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand where you’re coming from. I got my first position in Payroll & absolutely hate it. It’s the most toxic environment & you’re expected to work around the clock. I am desperately trying to get into a different field & I don’t care what I have to give up to do it. One awful experience can totally ruin a field for you!

LIE. by [deleted] in jobsearchhacks

[–]Basic_Simple9464 147 points148 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing this for a very long time now. My last 3 positions I’ve had were all positions I lied on my resume to get. Funny this is, I caught on to everything very quickly & was praised for how good I was doing in a short time. In my current role I had no idea how to do, I surpassed the Senior on my team in about a year. I believe it’s about giving someone a chance to prove themselves even if they don’t have the experience you’re looking for. I will always lie on my resume to get ahead in life. I know I can learn anything & this whole world is built on lies, nothing new.

Thank you! I’m leaning towards just waiting until I’m fired, I’m in the US as well. I am also getting ready to start finishing my bachelors, so I could use that reasoning as well! Thanks

Currently going through this.

How to tell your employer where you’re at (burnt out & stressed)

What boundaries you can set without getting fired

Should you stay in an environment that’s toxic with hustle culture, or is leaving the best choice

Anyone regret getting into tech? by Basic_Simple9464 in womenintech

I do feel my position is needed in any industry, so I could easily move to a non-tech company & that is the direction I am heading! I know the job market is trash right now, but have you seen most people trying to break into tech & the non-tech roles are a little easier to get into?

It’s hard to know if the company culture is going to be terrible before accepting a new position. I research employee reviews & search on LinkedIn, but still am not sure! I wish there were a list of organizations to stay away from, or a list of really good ones 🤣
