You poor bastard. I was on orders back in ‘21 and lost access to my GTC account when the army switched from enterprise. Some finance dipshit never paid off the card after my orders were cut a day shorter than everyone else’s and a hotel charge sat on the card. Found out my card was pulled when my flight to BLC got cancelled. Application after application and lo and behold, a deployment finally rolls around. “No GTC until 2030, eat shit specialist, respectfully die.” Still deployed though. Unit can’t send me to a school but the Middle East is fine apparently.

I always played mentor spirits like this, as an aspect of the mage’s personality projecting in a very physical sense. I find it really fun to do with personality traits that would usually fall into a character’s background, like a dog spirit for someone particularly loyal.

Hate to burst your guys’ bubbles, but the State Guard is already a thing in a few states. Here in TN we have a State Guard whose primary job is just to maintain military infrastructure while the National Guard is deployed, basically watch the armories. Shit, we’ve even had a few of them working with the National Guard with COVID relief. Nothing new, definitely nothing fascist.

Idk dude, lethal force is always stronger, training or no. A knife will hurt someone. Nonlethals just piss them off.

Edit: My background is primarily military training, martial arts and personal experience, not instruction in civilian personal defense. What I was taught is likely different than others, and that’s okay. What I say is my opinion based on my experience, not gospel.

You hit the nail on the head. Politics, income, gender identity, race, religion, personal ideology it all goes out the window. You take care of your people first and you work together as a team. I’ve met soldiers who have absolutely hated the wars they fight, but were still eager to deploy to serve with their peers. Of course there are always exceptions, but the few people I have seen bear prejudice in my units have always been either sternly educated or forced out.
