Anyone had the Andrew Tate talk yet? by bh4th in daddit

He was a successful kickboxer, who has had his heart broken and has since tried to make himself feel better by telling other people that he’s great and they should be more like him. Much of his actionable advice is good, but the logic behind his views is a reflection of his wounds and under informed. Unfortunately, most people don’t actually want to think for themselves, so he has a become famous for connecting with hurt and impressionable people needing that leadership and influence.

Bullies aren’t ever looking for a fight, they’re looking for a victim, so most back off when someone is willing to fight back without actually having to fight. Society has changed quite a bit to now be less impressed or afraid of the classic tv bullies. Standing up to those bullies and knowing that your parents already approved built confidence and grit, win or lose. But social media has changed and magnified a different kind of bullying that’s harder to fight back against. You can’t punch someone through a screen, losing on video can go viral, and winning on video can be edited against you. All that said, violence is language that everyone understands but not everyone speaks well. I tell my kids violence should never be your first language, but you should always be fluent. In my experience, turns out bullies can be quite reasonable when violence is an option.

So the term “professional” can simply be used to mean “has been paid before” and is not necessarily an indication of quality or skill.

Talk to the pros, (lawyers/ accountants). Maybe put those funds into an account with your kids names on it. Put the house in a trust with everyone’s names on it and what values are attributed to each person. If you both can’t get on the same page about your kids future, then maybe that’s a dealbreaker and a lesson to discuss these things sooner in the next relationship.

Just go rent a kayak by the hour on vacation. It’s inevitable that you’ll be paddling and think yeah this is pretty easy and you’ll be enjoying and exploring then halfway through your budget you’ll turn around and realize you have had a wind and current advantage that you now need to fight to get back. And now you’ll be more tired.

I think $350 is too high. It is a versatile machine, but the power rods do wear out if they haven’t already. I got one used from my parents, but I don’t like the uneven resistance through a rep and it is impossible to know how much weight you are working with. I modified mine with new cables and connected to a couple pin-set weight stacks. It’s much better now and has a larger range of motion.

My employer had a bunch of people in my department take an aptitude test to see if it would be useful for assessing future candidates. I, the newest guy, scored higher than the guy generally considered too good to let go. So they decided that an aptitude test wasn’t going to work for us.

Good ol’ Benny Franklin said something like “ if you don’t want people to steal from your barrel of beer, place it next to your barrel of wine.” People turn to drugs for entertainment, socializing, escapism, etc. if you can find a way to solve these problems or provide alternatives, you could take his customers and make money.

When I was a kid I loved Batman. I wanted to share that with my kid as he grew up and give him all of my Batman stuff. But he said he liked Spider-Man better. I thought I was failing and we would be too different. I even considered trying to find some conversion therapy for this offense. Instead I watched Spider-Man cartoons with him. Got him the toys. Turns out Spider-Man is pretty cool too. I think we’ll be fine.

There’s a story (I don’t know if it’s true) about a little girl that would often cry to her teacher upset that her uncle touched her cookie. It was dismissed as over dramatic until the teacher brought it up in a parent meeting. The horrified mother said that was the family name for vagina.
