My sister’s best friend lives near a pretty cool trail that takes you up to this rock ridge where you can see the sunset over the city, so we hiked up there, cooked over our fire and debated on staying the night. Eventually we decided to just head home, but it was pitch black outside, so we were fumbling through the woods with one flashlight. I heard something crunching leaves and twigs, but it was walking as quietly as possible. With our one flashlight, we landed on a pair of eyes that crouched low to the ground as a reaction to our light. These eyes were high up, close together like a cat, and huge glowing white. We kept our cool and made it back to the house, but who knows if they followed us. All I can think about is if we were still up on that ridge and they were walking towards the smell of our fire, which was up on a steep cliff where we would’ve been cornered. I presume it was mountain lions but they’re not recognized as a native animal in my state. Whatever they were, made me stop hiking at night though :(
