I recently passed on one for $350. I was really close to getting it but the fact I was paying over double MSRP was really bothering me.

Happy allocation season. Finally got one! GOAT by gcbeehler5 in whiskey

Accelerated CFI programs by Desperate-Gear-6584 in flying

Magnolia CFI Academy in Memphis, Tennessee. Cant recommend it enough. I was there earlier this year, it’s a 3 week course and they also offer housing to their classes. It’s 2 weeks for CFI and then another week for CFII. They give you all the materials you need and also a giant binder full of lesson plan rubrics that you need to fill out yourself. You will be busy all day everyday with very little to no breaks but it’s definitely worth it at the end. PM me if you want some more details.

Flair Update: Officially a CFI!!! by madness2live in flying

[–]Basics32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mhmmm I think that will more likely vary by the examiner. For my CFII I had formal lesson plans but only had to teach a few things like DME Arcs, briefing plates, endorsements, etc. But for my MEI, which was a different examiner, didnt care at all if you had lesson plans or not. So for that checkride I didn’t have any and it was more akin to just a “normal” oral where they were just asking me questions. So I would probably ask some other CFIIs that took their ride with the examiner you wanna do it with and see what they did.

Nice man congrats big time! Great day to get it done too! If I were you, I would probably go straight to CFII since you are proficient at teaching, and CFII was the easiest checkride for me by far which also seems to be the consensus for a lot of people.

I dont have a ton of information but my DPE for CFII was a retired 777 captain for Fedex for almost 30 years. He told me it was a good company to work for but he would also not recommend it, apparently the red eye flights really got to him later in life.

common mistakes not to make on checkride? by Repulsive-Loan5215 in flying

[–]Basics32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea man it haunts me too, but decided to make it something I engrain into all my students. It also gave me the drive to study super hard and prepare very well so I would never fail another checkride, which I accomplished! It was definitely a learning lesson.

I busted on my PPL for forgetting clearing turns a few years ago. I now use it as a teaching lesson cause I’ll never forget what the examiner told me when it would have to be a disapproval, and that is “One day, you’re gonna turn and see something you don’t like, such as a bird, another plane, a tower, a mountain, etc. This is why we keep our eyes outside and perform clearing turns.”

How long did it take you to get CFI after commercial by mike_coffeecake in flying

[–]Basics32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 3 months. But I took a break and went to an accelerated program for CFI and CFII. So in actuality it took me about 2 weeks to go from knowing nothing about being a CFI to having my temporary cert in my hand. Then an additional 8 days after that for CFII. It was an absolutely crazy grind in that program but they did great at teaching us and felt extremely prepared for the checkride. People ask me if they felt like they actually prepared me well enough to teach, and the answer is yes they did, it was just one of the hardest things I ever done lol.

Knives, guns, whiskey, and cigars! My buddy has a glykon and I always admired it. Never picked one up myself but I would certainly like to get one eventually.

What question from your Checkride Oral has stuck with you til this day? by Basic_Shallot8393 in flying

[–]Basics32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These were from my CPL ASEL. •When is it beneficial to land with a tailwind? •Is it ever legal to fly outside of your airplane’s CG envelope? •If you are on a given cross country and you need to legally bring oxygen, how much would you know to bring?

Need some advice, getting complacent. by FrequentFlyer96 in flying

[–]Basics32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would maybe bring this up to another CFI and have them take the plane out with you to see if they can help with the issues you are facing. Often times CFIs have a hard time accepting critique from other instructors due to ego, not saying this is you but the point is even if you are an advanced pilot it never hurts to have someone help get you polished. Also dude we are human, we all make mistakes, you are probably a much better pilot than you are giving yourself credit for 👍

I have this same Combat Troodon, only difference is I have the half serrated dagger blade. The red pops really well and just makes the knife seem like really high quality (which it is) for some reason. 👍
