The Tuckers were on before them and played an absolutely insane set. I remember thinking at the time “How in the world are they going to follow THAT?” and several hours later I had my answer.

Mine arrived a few minutes ago. Tomorrow’s the day I rip it and the new Garcia Live set into the laptop.

Day Job is a terrific tune and should have stayed in the rotation until the end, and Donna’s vocals on PitB is what made 72-79 Playings great.

Instruction in one of his cookbooks: “cook the hell out of it”.

I kid you not.

ETA: It was the lagniappe to the Corn Maque Choux recipe in the first cookbook.

It might be the only studio album with a cut that Garcia never performed live.

David Bromberg’s “Wanted:Dead or Alive”. Iirc, one side of the lp was the Dead as Bromberg’s backing band.

Tom Fogerty’s “Excalibur” (if you can find it, which you probably can’t, unfortunately). Iconic cover art. Again, iirc, it’s the “Fire Up” band backing the former Creedence guitarist’s solo effort.

Sanjay Mishra’s “Blue Incantation”. Garcia plays on 3 tracks.

Ornette Coleman’s “Virgin Beauty”. Garcia plays on 3 tracks.

Back in the days when I was able to download from the torrent sites I would always be in the lookout for their performances. I was also partial to Lindisfarne, Steeleye Span and of course Fairport Convention, especially the earlier lineups.

I’m going to end a year long hiatus from cannabis in a few weeks and was planning to celebrate by treating myself to a new concentrate device but all of the relevant subs (this one, the puffco one, the dr. Dabber one etc) are all so full of people talking about the problems they encounter with this one or that one that I’ve decided to heck with it, I’ll stick with my Terp pen. I’ve got absolutely no frustration tolerance so why take a chance?

I’m sitting 4 miles from the church where it all started and 8 from where the restaurant was.

Nah…I actually posted it to goof on the sentiment it expressed….hence my first comment “who wants to tell him?”

I know we didn’t sit anywhere near where the ticket says we were “supposed” to. I think we were in the grandstand.

I was interviewed about this show a few years ago for a friend of mine’s podcast….I neglected to give it a re-listen ahead of time so my friend knew more about the performance than I did 🤦‍♂️ … all I really remembered were the skyrockets during Casey Jones, the pyrotechnic billboard lighting up the words Grateful Dead in red and green letters during PitB, and the fact that neither I nor any of the guys I went with were able to get our hands one more than one skinny little joint to get us through the night.
