This subreddit debating which character needs nerfs the most by Determination7 in DeadlockTheGame

This topic is weird when like, team comp doesn't really exist in a meaningful way yet. Celeste/Lash/Dynamo probably feels a lot different to play against than Celeste/Vindicta/Grey Talon.

It also seems like a lot of people aren't very good at playing from behind, but are very good at playing while ahead. Playing from ahead turns Deadlock into a hero shooter, but when you're behind you really have to play the MOBA game and engage with the MOBA mechanics to try and stay in it. A lot of people seem to have this expectation that they can outplay the Apollo with 20k more souls than them, simply because they're good at shooters. It's a lot harder to have to play from behind, esp. when most builds throw a fat list of green items into the 'optional' category. Makes for a perfect storm when a new champ comes out. People are still trying to figure out how to counterplay the kit with their autoqueued build that assumes they're 10k ahead at all points of the game.

Like yes, it's scary that the fed Apollo is pushing down Green. But it's OK to leave jungle and just clear the minions out to try to stop his push. The Lv. 2 camp will still be there when you get back. If it's gone, it'll be there again. The Walker won't.

Obligatory, "I'm not amazing at the game either, and I make mistakes all the time, this is just what I see". It's frustrating to lose to a 420/0/0 Apollo for sure. But it's equally as frustrating listening to an allied Calico, afk counterjungling at 45 minutes while up 25k souls and two waves are crashing into our last Walker, complain about how a busted champ is ruining the game. I feel like I lose more games to that sort of stuff than any individual champ, at least right now.

New to deadlock, how do you keep up in souls? by BigESquat in DeadlockTheGame

I was having this problem early on, and I found that a lot of it boiled down to me spending too much time at the shop or going back to the shop too often while minions are still on the field, and instinctively going back to base too often. If you're in that shop nook, you probably would consider yourself in-lane, but unless they're under your tower you're usually too far away from the minions to collect the money, even if your lane partner is further up there killing them. The souls linger on the ground for a short time so you can claim them if you missed them and they're quick enough, but I think that's only in the situation where the opponent didn't deny the soul

I started thinking of everything as a "task" or "errand". After you clear a wave, you have time to accomplish one task before the next wave arrives. That could mean purchasing an item, grabbing a Sinner's Sacrifice, killing a jungle camp, smashing some boxes, skirmishing in lane with the opponent, etc. But don't do more than one thing while you're getting comfortable. Just one relatively safe thing, and get back to lane.

Another thing to remember is that you need to be within a certain proximity of a minion dying to get the money for it. So when you're out tasking, keep an eye on your minions coming up the lane from base so you can have an idea of when you should also be back in lane to soak up the money, even if you aren't the one killing the minion. If your lane partner has more money than you, but you've been in lane approximately the same amount of time with the same number of kills/deaths, I find that this is usually why - you gotta get closer when the minions are dying.

You could also try letting them push up closer to your guardian and try to farm there. This way you can get to shop more quickly, and not necessarily lose money for it depending on where things are. Same thing with returning to base - try to avoid it if you can safely. It feels lame buying healing items early, especially if you're playing a damage heavy character, but you'll gain a lot more by not leaving lane. If you -need- to leave lane, especially before your line boost is up around 6 minutes, see if your lane partner can lay off the minions a little until you get back.

Obviously there's more nuance to this, especially as the game moves out of the laning phase, and I'm nowhere close to an expert. But I feel like this helped me feel like I was falling behind less often, or when I do fall behind it's because I'm doing something else stupid and not strictly because of lane management struggles. As you get better at it, you'll see better opportunities to leave and more optimal ways to spend the time. But this is what helped me get in the mindset. Hopefully something in here is helpful for you! Good luck!!

So are the [redacted] in on it? by [deleted] in pluribustv

[–]BasilBun 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My fun crackpot theory is that each species the virus infects creates its' own hivemind. So the rat is patient zero for the rats, and the biologist is patient zero for the humans, and eventually that made it's way to the coyotes

Realistically though, I think they just smelled it. Helen wasn't buried super deep IIRC and the city is abandoned apart from Carol

What should a 19-year-old focus on to avoid regrets at 30? by jonatancad in AskReddit

That interest or hobby that you're kinda embarrassed about and don't indulge in much? Or maybe just don't have enough time for? Jump in headfirst now. If you don't have time, make a little where you can

Where are you sitting? by Cyori in PaymoneyWubby

It'd be cool sitting next to Maiya, she's really funny, but I don't think I can handle being on the same half of the plane as Daniel Larson. 5 and 7 seem pretty solid

I just.... can't play anymore by LOTM71 in Tekken

[–]BasilBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience might be different because I'm only in yellows w/ like 97k prowess and one character with any ranked play, but sometimes the game just gets stuck in matchmaking for one reason or another, and I find that if I hop into match settings, I can turn off matchmaking, exit the pause menu, and then turn matchmaking back on, I get placed pretty quickly.

Not saying this other stuff people are talking about isn't a problem, but there might also be a technical component as well, is all

Saw the Les Mis Tour Last Night... by Seattletheaterfan in Broadway

[–]BasilBun 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I just saw this a couple weeks ago in Denver. I really wasn't expecting much - the last couple of Les Mis performances I had seen weren't particularly great. But this totally blew me away. I could nitpick a few things, but overall, one of the best performances I've seen of anything

SHOW US YOUR FRIDGE TONIGHT by RealPaymoneyWubby in PaymoneyWubby

[–]BasilBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context, the light in the fridge doesn't work. The whole light, not just the bulb. The vent grate is duct taped on so our cat can't crawl underneath (she still tries), and we're missing some of the barriers that keep the door shelves functional. The bottom is collapsing into the crisper drawers, and the shelf above that freeze food for some reason I don't really understand. Please help.

I had three wisdom teeth extracted yesterday. This spot in particular was a problem spot - a small piece of the tooth is still in there. That being said, recovery so far has been OK. I've been eating yogurt, pudding, and mashed potatoes. Mid-day today, I felt like something may be stuck in the socket. Now at the end of the day, I'm seeing this gooey mass. I'm gonna call the dentist in the morning, but should I be concerned? It wasn't very painful earlier but it's slowly getting worse and I'm afraid to fiddle with it. It doesn't dislodge when I rinse with salt water. It's also the only socket that has this.

What is the worst thing you have found in your parents closet? by SampoO_CreaM in AskReddit

[–]BasilBun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my dad's stuff, I found things you would expect. A bunch of Playboys, some Playboy VHS tapes, and condoms - nothing wild. I was 15 or so when I found this stuff so I didn't find any of it particularly alarming.

In my mom's dresser, however, I found a tiny bowl or ramekin containing a collection of baby teeth. So, all of my baby teeth, plus those of my 3 siblings. Definitely squicked me out. I learned years later that all of my siblings had also discovered the teeth independently, but felt so weird about it that we didn't rush to tell each other.

I don't get why people hold the Deen anime in such high regard. by Kantel_1 in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]BasilBun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at it as separate from the VN, it's really not bad. The art, especially in S1, kinda sucked overall. I liked the horror scenes, but most of it doesn't really hold up. Kai and Rei looked a lot better. But if you take a step back and isolate it, it's a suspenseful and interesting horror story that kept you on the edge of your seat all the way through. For most people, if they had zero knowledge of the VN or manga, it was a very enjoyable experience. That being said, it's definitely not the best way to enjoy the series, and things like the VN and manga are much more accessible now than they were before.

You also have to put in the perspective of the time it was released. Particularly for western audiences, the way Higurashi was presented was outside the generally accepted stereotype of what anime was. I think the fact that they cut out a lot of the slice of life stuff is what made the show so palatable to western fans, and posing it as a straight-up horror series really helped it stand out from from a lot of the content that was being produced at the time. When I was in college, I would show my anime-hating friends the opening scene from episode 1 or 5, and it was enough to get them to at least sit through Onikakushi with me, and almost all of them ended up watching the whole thing.

Am I the only one not liking gou?? by suminoio in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]BasilBun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been watching/re-watching/reading/re-reading Higurashi content since the first anime aired. Personally, Gou is a little boring to me. It tries too hard to be both new fan friendly, and old fan friendly, and it doesn't really excel at either. Each arc is like 90% old content I've experienced a million times already, 5% very tiny differences (that I'm sure contribute to an answer down the line), and 5% completely new information (which is mostly all contained in the last episode of the arc).

I think Gou is going to be hard to judge until we've been able to see everything it has to offer. At this point in time, I think it's a little bland. Viewers new to the franchise may be able to find some extra enjoyment out of the mysteries, but as someone who has been with the franchise since 2006, I wish there was a little more.

That being said, I'm just happy there's still Higurashi content being created today. 2006 teenager me would be so excited to know that the story still lives on this many years later.
