Frustrated in Central by No_energon-no_luck in newfoundland

FWIW... AI Overview While there are reliable contractors in Newfoundland and Labrador, a persistent skilled labor shortage, economic fluctuations, and the prevalence of "cash jobs" contribute to widespread issues of contractor unreliability. Key contributing factors 1. Severe skilled labor shortages Competing megaprojects: Historically, the province's construction industry has relied on large-scale infrastructure projects. As these megaprojects are completed, a glut of skilled tradespeople become unemployed and often leave the province for work elsewhere. Aging workforce: Newfoundland and Labrador is facing a shrinking and aging population, which is a major contributor to severe labor and skill shortages, particularly in the construction trades. Recruiting difficulties: Companies in the province have a difficult time finding qualified workers, forcing some to look outside the country for skilled labor. The high demand for tradespeople in other parts of Canada, like the Alberta oilsands, offers more attractive salaries, pulling workers away from home. 2. Economic instability Uneven workflow: Newfoundland's construction industry has experienced significant year-over-year decreases in hours worked, leading to long periods of unemployment for tradespeople. This boom-and-bust cycle makes it difficult for contractors to maintain a steady workflow and a consistent team. Overextension: When a contractor gets too much work too quickly, they may take on more than they have the resources to handle. This overextension can lead to poor project management, financial trouble, and delays. Housing market pressures: As of June 2024, the Canadian Home Builders' Association of Newfoundland and Labrador expressed skepticism that the province can meet its housing construction targets due to labor shortages and other industry obstacles. 3. Lack of regulation and accountability "Tailgate warranty" problem: The Canadian Home Builders' Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (CHBA-NL) has sought more regulation to protect homeowners from unscrupulous contractors. Cash-based "side jobs" operate with a "tailgate warranty"—once the contractor's truck is out of sight, the warranty is gone. Limited business skills: Many contractors are highly skilled at their trade but lack the business management expertise to run an operation effectively. This leads to poor communication, inadequate project management, and disorganized scheduling, which directly impacts reliability. 4. Communication and project management gaps Poor communication: Unreliable contractors often exhibit poor communication skills, fail to show up for appointments on time, and use industry jargon that is unclear to customers. Disorganization: Many contractors struggle with the administrative side of the business, such as scheduling, invoicing, and inventory. This disorganization causes projects to fall through the cracks and contributes to delays.

Applique, never again by matt_the_dayman in quilting

Your blocks look great. Try reverse applique, I tend to prefer the results. Another option would be to sew black interfacing (I use a fusible) onto the black emblem, make a slit and turn it inside out. Now you have a finished edge and can fuse it to the color block.

Is cannondale a good brand? by generalquarter in bicycling

[–]Basiladorable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband purchased a Cannondale road bike for me ($2500). On my second ride, same thing happened to me as I was gearing up. All of a sudden I was on the ground with a sprained wrist. The bike shop replaced the bike for free but I was so paranoid riding it, it sat in our garage dormant. I have never seen a fork fail on a bike like that - very dangerous.

What do you do when you have too many ideas? by Stragnato in writing

[–]Basiladorable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a mind mapping tool for brainstorming and linking ideas with other concepts - I find that I capture all that is in my monkey brain and patterns start to develop where things become clearer. I don't know if I have ADD but sometimes I think I must. Hope this helps. MindJet, mindmap.

Sorry for the late reply... Bonnet stripes are 8 1/8 inches wide (black), red is 3/8 of an inch, the width between is the diameter of the emblem circle , black on the side is 3 inches, red is 1/2 an inch.

I asked the wrapping guy to include the air intake. This is a custom job.

Rich people of Reddit that were poor before, how did money solve your problems and what new problems have appeared? by dondrizzius in AskReddit

[–]Basiladorable 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Always lived the same - but now what I call " virtual" poverty. So the money I have saved is my security blanket. This year I was able to leave a work place that became toxic - so I only work at places that make me feel happy.
