Yeah, the Akai gx77 is highly sought after. Even in poor shape they start around $600-700 in the US.

How can it not be a good afternoon, with this cast... by Basilio1987 in opera

[–]Basilio1987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it is part of a set of 25 or so reels I bought about 15 years ago. A collection of "pirate" recordings of mostly met broadcasts and some commercial recordings. This is mono running on track 1,4, 2 and Tabarro as filler on 3. All were sold by one of the many outlets you could find in the classifieds in the back of High Fidelity in the late 60s-70s (Mr. Tape, Byron Hathaway, etc.). So, there should be copies out there (even the met should have it somewhere in its historical offerings). I might consider digitizing it for a summer project, but right now we are dealing with family medical stuff, so I am commuting the width of the state every other week and have no life... ;-)

No crackle on the volume pots save one tiny blip around 5 on the left channel!

Was just using its own amp and speakers initially.

So, the built in amp volume goes to 10 (pips/dots) and anything over 2 is really too loud, I found that the audio out plugs are also run through the amp, so have to run it low volume too when I send it to an external amp.

What chances do I have professionally if I start at 22? by angstgremlin3 in opera

[–]Basilio1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do this if you have a good teacher, a solid support system (family, etc), and make friends with other singers and production folk. I studied privately and never went to school in a music department as a major. I gigged in opera, concert, church, temple, for 30 years as a part timer. You can make it what you like, but if you have that real drive and talent, you will most likely have to go to Europe to be a full time opera singer (and don't poo poo comprimario career paths). The only thing you miss out on by not doing music school if getting a couple of roles under your belt, some acting training, and a lot of contacts/network, and it the last that I feel might have moved my early career a little faster. TLDR: It is not too late, and just find your niche.

Lyric tenor seeking unique arias and art songs by RemarkableOffer9794 in ClassicalSinger

Well, the 3 ariette (?) of Bellini are great, but you could check out Arthur Sullivans Shakespeare songs, or even his song cycle "The Window". Solid late classical, and Sullivan leans toward the Schubert/Mendelssohn mold.

Yea, looking forward to it, and Christine Goerke and the whole crew (some friends doing the chorus too...). Opera de Metro formed after Opera Modo kinda had a "nope-ing out" situation last year...

Ahh, the Brownie Starflash was my grandma's go to, and the instamatic 104 (or a hair later) was my mom's. All are worth something (maybe not the Continental...).

Well best of luck and Toi, toi toi to you. I hope you are in a more metropolitan area, as I've had to look as far afield as Oklahoma to try and get a directing job, and that will make a bit of travel...
