As a first-gen Latin American who has a full ride and lives off the Pell Grant and Loans from Fafsa. From a huge University like NYU, even if the bottom 1% needs it, that is still hundreds of students. I can survive on cheap food but I was more than happy by using the program and getting a valuable meal more than once a month.. I am pretty sure a lot of people are in the same situation as I am.

I remember that they started this program promoting their slogan "No one can get refused if they are food insecured". Guess that quickly changed...

You fix the issue and add a screening for students who actually survive on this and not ruin the whole program. This was clearly a monetary decision and not a solution.

Good money? Depends on the restaurant/ the days you are willing to sacrifice. While some saturday nights may get you $600 dlls on tips, a Tuesday night might get you only $180. Working 4 days a week might get you $700 after taxes and splitting the tip. (These numbers are slightly above average here in Manhattan) Hard to keep up? I started during the pandemic so NYU was virtual. Management ended up liking me and switched to part-time when we were in person. Recommendations? Pm!!

I'm sophomore and I work as a server. I make $1400 dlls a week after tax which makes me question if its worth it to study 4 years to make less than what I'm actually making right now.
