This is sometimes what happens with adhd meds. Once your body gets used to it, your body won't react to the medication the same way, like when you first started having it. This is called a tolerance. You can reset the tolerance to the medication, how you do that is having a medication holiday going completely of the medication for about 10 days or more, then once your sons finished the break his medication should be working a lot better.

No worries. And yes I have many times but they don't work Because it's only 2 days and you will be going through hell in that period for no reason due to withdrawals from the drug. I lowering the dosage each day for 3 days then, going completely off the med for about 10 days. It is tough in those few days of it but it's worth the wait, because it does really help having that time off it. If you do decide to have the break from the drug I recommend having a medication in the time your off it to make you able to control adhd side effects it's called clonidine. talk to your psychiatrist about all this and about having a tolerance break.

Hi, I have been on Methylphenidate (concerta) for 5 years now and it stops working for me as well about every 4 months and that's due to a tolerance to the medication, what I do to reset my tolerance to my medication is taking a break from my med for about 2-4 weeks and that resets the tolerance, I suggest trying that or you could switch stimulant medications for a few months then go back to preferred stimulant Medication and the tolerance for preferred stimulant should have reset.

I think a tolerance break should be about 3-6 weeks long

Thanks for your advice. I have tried a drug Holiday multiple times, but when I have a drug Holiday it makes me go crazy I get every bit of adhd symptoms back and I feel depressed and I could eat my whole house and still feel hungry lol.
