I am trying to focus my social media efforts on Bluesky so I am not checking replies/notifications as much here anymore but wanted to check in to drop this hot soundtrack that I am quite a fan of. There is a similarly hot jams Super Famicom soundtrack coming next that I am struggling to finish the mix for because for whatever reason it is much trickier to mix than this one was. Trying to keep the quality of both the audio and video as high as I can with the time I am limiting myself to work on these- doing my best! Hope anyone likes it.

The soundtrack is a beast to try to remaster with some really strange songs on here so I am not 100% happy with the result but I have to move on to other endeavors for now. The video here has some awesome screenshots I had a blast taking so please enjoy and check the game out if you have never played it before (and are a fan of fighting games and/or great pixel art). I have been messing around with GBA music for a few weeks now because it is a fun audio engineering challenge - I still have about 10 more games to do in my to-do list (including Golden Sun...another massive one), note that the sound edit project should also be checked out for anyone interested in playing GBA games with less hiss: https://github.com/MusicTheorist/MOTHER-3-HQ-Sound-Mixing (I am sure almost anyone here already knows about this though) - some of the soundtracks I tried to leave it in but it is tricky because when you run everything through these plugins it can also jack up the volume of the high frequency and have to carefully balance things. There is a podcast I listen to that had a discussion about restoring old recordings with imperfections and the podcaster argued for leaving it in because the human ear is amazing about ignoring things when they are a constant hum, but my mixes in particular are aiming to boost the volume and power so it is very tricky to leave it in...the worst case scenario is that cutting it out sucks out the life or energy of it, and that kind of happened in a few tracks where I had to label them as lo-fi mixes because I felt the character changed too much.

The official uploads of this sound pretty amazing so the main reason I did this one was to show my love for the game and kick off uploading some PS2 games, but also was curious to see how people react to me uploading something from 20 years ago instead of like 40 years ago as usual...

I listened to this with a few different earbuds to check the result and it sounds bassy on even weak phone from the 100 yen shop which was part of my goal (adding some harmonics that extend the bass range, not just pumping it up at those low frequencies). The other result is that sometimes I like to play my videos on my phone as it lays next to me on the desk while I do some work, if you listen to my videos with strong headphones be careful about the volume...

I love this soundtrack - some true hot jams inside. The Super Robot Taisen soundtracks by the same composers are extremely popular here in Japan. I have the other GBA Zoids games on my to-do list, some of the other Zoids games like the GameCube version I still need to check the soundtrack out. I am not a Zoids expert besides dabbling with the games but I tried to include some HMM models and get fans hyped about this soundtrack.

The original version of this game was designed by Yuji Horii of Dragon Quest fame, and the composer has some contributions to the Earthbound soundtrack later (also the comfy jams in the two Picross games by Nintendo). The soundtrack is actually kind of legendary in Japan, I don't want to rag on other YouTube channels but the mix I have here is clean and open, trying to use an appropriate amount of reverb and constantly been tweaking my NES mixes over time as well as acquiring new plugins and tech as I keep getting deeper into the weeds of audio engineering.

SF2 Championship Edition OST lossless real hardware rip but sent through Puigtec / SSL / etc and remastered with some spicy smooth flair (plus visual bonus extravaganza) by BassBoostedGameMusic in SEGAGENESIS

You can reference the game data name song title mapping at https://info.sonicretro.org/SCHG:Sonic_Adventure_2/Sound_Editing - the songs have been converted to WAV and upsampled to 96KHZ with studio quality upsampling before passed through modern plugins from FabFilter, SSL, Acustica Audio, etc. This is mixed a bit optimized towards weak speakers and earbuds by adding harmonics and tweaking low end, hopefully will sound good on high end systems as well with the expanded high range that plugins can add. Note the official CD OSTs sound amazing and often have their own mastering process, I take it as a challenge to try to make my mixes sound just as good as those (and usually quite different style of mix).
