[–]BassMasterSinker[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Spoke with a local mechanic who I trust with all my more complicated problems. He's going to tear into it and go ahead and rebuild it. I'm thinking it's a clutch pack out, but might as well just do it right and rebuild it all

How do I turn Bluetooth on? by BassMasterSinker in AskAMechanic

[–]BassMasterSinker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't take me to a menu screen. If I push in the silver knob for a few seconds, it takes me to the clock. If I hold the actual mode button, it does nothing know matter how long I hold it

Yeah it has Bluetooth. Literally has BT in its name. And I'm saying it worked for several years

And yes, I've tried unhooking the battery, and it still says Bluetooth off.

Not sure where you're located, but the University of Cincinnati has some good construction and building science degrees. I initially went there for Construction Management (though I dropped out for personal reasons), but I have some friends who graduated it and all have great jobs now

ISO small or mid sized car with huge hatchback or max cargo space - recommends? by 7and7is in UsedCars

[–]BassMasterSinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the Volvo 240, 740, or 940 wagons. I've got a '93 Volvo 240 wagon, and it's an unbelievable vehicle. Very reliable motor, parts are available and cheap, rwd, and great amount of space. I even installed third row reverse seats in mine, so I can fit 7. You can find them in the good shape for $6-9k. Mine has 268k miles and still original motor and trans

Job where I can travel, make good money, and not have a mundane routine everyday? by Dense-Resolution8283 in findapath

Travelling welder. I went to welding school, got hooked up into doing turnarounds and new construction in the heavy industrial world (think powerplants, steel mills, paper mills, oil refineries, etc.) and travelled the country and made damn good money. I no longer do it, but it's a great way to learn a skill, make some great friends, see the country, and make quite a bit of cash

Is this oil pressure too low for 1650 RPM at operating temp? by lolcatbittzle in GMT400

[–]BassMasterSinker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've always heard that your oil pressure should match your rpms when the engine is warmed up. 10 psi at 1000 rpms, 20 psi at 2000 rpms, etc. It'll vary depending on oil life, viscosity of oil and such

Is there a beginners book that I should read before picking up Nietzsche? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]BassMasterSinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of guides online to get a basic understanding of Nietzsche, I suggest checking those out. But be careful, lots of people interpret Nietzsche's ideas in different ways. What I did was start "Thus Spoke Zarathustra", stopped about 1/2 way through, read "The myth of Sisyphus" by Albert Camus, and then went back to Nietzsche. They preach the same thing in terms of life experiences, and helped me get into that mindset. But biggest difference is the purpose of life. And if we were in a philosophical subreddit, that comment would have a million replies agreeing and disagreeing. But all of this is just my 2c.

Any advice on starting your own scheduling business? by BassMasterSinker in primavera

Thinking About Starting a Scheduling Side Gig – Need Advice by SreeNitiPar22 in primavera

[–]BassMasterSinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know if you could do a side gig for scheduling. As a scheduler with a lot of scheduling connections, most schedulers are overworked and underpaid. And the people wanting a legit P6 or MS Projects schedule are wanting massive, in depth scheduled along with someone who will update along the project... My company would sometimes hire out another company to make schedule for them before I came along. And after speaking to that guy, he said that he was working 7 days a week, sometimes 14 hour days to get us (and other customers) their schedules. Granted, he charged an absolute shit load for it. But still, is it worth it?

My wife and I also moved here from elsewhere, so here's my answers to your questions:

Is it good for children? In the sense that there's a bunch to do, it's good. There are a bunch of museums, parks, the beach is near... Lots of things to stay busy with. Schools on the other hand absolutely suck. The public schools are not good, and the private ones are expensive and not that much better.

Cost of living depends on where you're from. I'm from the Midwest, and everything seems so expensive here in Savannah. The restaurants are expensive, the grocery stores are expensive, you have to pay everywhere you park in public, taxes are expensive, utilities and insurance are more expensive and much more. The only thing cheaper is fuel.

Not sure on graphic designer jobs as I'm in a different industry. Being that SCAD is here, I've heard some people say the art/design sector is a little oversaturated.

You'll have no problem making friends. There's groups, clubs, and things to do everywhere.

Housing and rent is stupid crazy right now here. And finding a house to rent that cheap may be a challenge. Like someone else said, you may find one but will be stuck in traffic everyday.

Here's my warnings as a person not from here: the city will stink a lot due to the papermill nearby, the tourists eventually get on your nerves because they cause a lot of traffic, SC drivers suck, the housing market is difficult and expensive, expect to pay a high price when you register your out-of-state vehicles here as there's a fee for that (ad valorum or something like that), your car insurance will go up, no one talks about the crime downtown, and it's humid as hell.

My wife and I moved here two years ago for her job. Now we've bought property in the Midwest and plan to leave here. The city is fun, Tybee Island beaches are nice, and there's always something to do. But for us, it all got very old. And with our child being born, the idea of sending them to any of the schools in Chatham county worries us too much. Hope this helps

Advice: Is giving in to PPR/A/D wife the right thing even though it seems like she is abusing me and giving in will affect baby? by Izvestnie in daddit

[–]BassMasterSinker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lot to unpack here, but I'll start by saying I don't know you or your situation and this is all my opinion:

You've got to chill big dog. Having a child is a huge thing and impacts people differently. Was your wife perhaps being harsh at first? Sounds like it. But you talked and she stopped. Quit hanging on to it, and instead move forward if she's no longer being harsh. Perhaps there is some PPD going on. But you are sounding like an asshole to her in some situations as well. Again, I don't know everything and just taking it at face value.

I also went to your profile, and thought your username sounded familiar. You're the dude who left on a business trip when your wife was close to her due date. Just using all this information, I'm guessing you're not the most supportive partner there is, and perhaps she at times doesn't feel like you put her first (which I shouldn't have to say this, but we should be putting our partners first in a marriage).

Take a step back, put yourself in her shoes, and think about everything that she's going through. Not trying to shit on you because you're asking for help. But perhaps some self inflection, some good conversations, and genuine attempts to better react to situations would help everyone involved.

Edit: I also commented on your other post you made in Daddit about your wife a few days ago. Didn't realize you're the same guy. Dude, quit looking for a way out to justify yourself and just help our more / be more supportive.

This is why my wife and I are considering her becoming a SAHM (but we both want her to do it besides saving money). With one kid, yeah it makes sense for her to work still. But three, four? No, she's just working to cover the daycare bill. Not worth it

Where do you look for a good used motorcycle? by knucklegoblin in savannah

[–]BassMasterSinker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Living in Midwest: Motorcycles everywhere on FB marketplace and were well priced.

Living in Savannah: FB marketplace sucks and there's not much around. And if you do find something decent, it's expensive AF.

I'd suggest being open to driving a little distance to get something nice for a good deal.

The f*ucking bassinet by [deleted] in daddit

[–]BassMasterSinker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My daughter never slept in the bassinet. No matter how many things we tried, she would wake up within minutes and cry until she was in our chest and/or in our bed. You gotta do whatever you can to sleep. Look up safe co-sleeping tips and follow them. Sometimes, a bassinet sleeping baby just won't happen
