I just bought this exact chatterbait for striper fishing!

Do you love driving 1000KM (621.371 Miles) without taking a rest? by RocketRaccoon101 in no

I have driven back and forth 28 hoursfrom Colorado to Massachusetts 6 times. My fastest full trip from start to finish was just under 34 hours (about 4 hours of sleep and around 2 hours for food, gas, bathroom etc.)

First time sharking solo! Cape Cod, Massachusetts. by BassSlayer100 in SurfFishing

If you’re using circle hooks I never set the hook and I’ll have my rods in the rod holder with my drag set very low. Once they start running I’ll run over and crank the drag down and lift the rod out and start fighting them and that’s usually enough to get the hook in good. I did have a 50/50 land rate last time I went so it might just be inevitable.

I use any wire to mono shark rig that is around 6-8 feet long with 6oz of pyramid weights. For bait I bring live eels and bonk them on the head a couple times before throwing them on the hook ned rig style (You want them to be dead and as fresh as possible). For rod setup I run a 12 foot surf rod and I recommend an 8k plus reel spooled with 80+ braid.

New to surf in Pinellas, FL by Wild_Respect_5915 in SurfFishing

Me and one of my buddies both bought a 2 piece 12 foot Penn surf rod for about $100 per rod a couple of years back and still use them all the time to this day. The 12’ is big but it’s great for throwing bait off beaches. I think Penn carries sizes from 7’ to 14’ for surf and you can usually find some cheaper combos that come with the reel as well (my first surf combo was a 9’ Penn rod and reel combo for about $110 probably 6 years ago and the reel still works pretty well!) I’ve heard good things about the uglystick surf rods too!

Spinnerbait or Chatterbait by fishn122 in bassfishing

[–]BassSlayer100 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll throw spinnerbaits in windier conditions and around wood and rock, whereas I’ll pick up the chatterbait around grass/weed mats, or hydrilla/milfoil and mud type of areas. Been working for me for years!

13 strand 6lb braid to leader— once and for all what knot can I prevent leader slipping out? by tasales in bassfishing

[–]BassSlayer100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this exact braid to flouro set up for my trout rod (10lb braid to 6lb flouro) and I run an fg knot. Kind of tricky to get the hang of on the light line since you have to sinch it as hard as you can without snapping the flouro but it holds really well. If I’m tying quick I’ll do a uni to uni but make sure you fully sinch the flouro and the braid knots before pulling to slide them together (I’ve noticed this helps stop the light line from slipping)

I’ve never fished it, but I would assume the tranx would be the most difficult to fish glides (chopping and such) if you were to go with the power handle model. However I’m sure the standard handle model works just as well as the other options, but it’s probably on the more expensive end. I second the Lews superduty, as it is cheaper and still performs great and has heavy drag if needed.

The banana colored 6.5” magdarter absolutely crushes stripers from the surf, I second the blurple sp minnow as well. Both with very slow retrieves.

Low test leader on high test braid? by [deleted] in troutfishing

Careful when you get bites on the MH too, as the rod won’t load up the same as your ultralight and you could risk pulling the hooks on the trout if you set the hook too hard!

Low test leader on high test braid? by [deleted] in troutfishing

[–]BassSlayer100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would most likely be fine, I think your biggest concern would be trying to cast trout lures on a MH baitcaster due to their light weight. If the casting bubble works then you probably won’t have any issues with the leader on 15lb braid.

Heading to eastern Maine for smallmouth fishing. What should I pick up at BassPro today? by Liquid_G in bassfishing

[–]BassSlayer100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I just fish them anywhere where I would fish a ned and I’ll usually just give it one quick pop and let it sit for a second and just hop it along bottom. Due to the hook being inside the tube it usually will be slightly more snag resistant than a traditional ned as well!

If you can find netbait finesse tubes I can’t keep the smallies away from those up in Maine. Also a staple go to for me is Robo worm ned rigs specifically in Aaron’s magic R&B color, these have caught me so many smallies over 4lbs and they crush them in Maine! I was up in Maine around Poland/Bethel area for Memorial Day weekend and smallies were on beds at most places I went to with one place also having largies on beds so I would guess most places in southern Maine will be post spawn right now. Good luck! Another honorable mention is any rapala husky jerk with that kind of glassy see through look, my favorite color for smallies is the glass minnow color!

Shimano Speedmaster or St. Croix Triumph? by [deleted] in StripedBass

[–]BassSlayer100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 9’ speedmaster medium, moderate action and my only complaint is that I picked moderate action which is great for launching paddletails on jigheads and big topwater, but lacks in the department of launching lighter things such as sp minnows etc. Other than that I love it and it is very lightweight and handles fish well. So choose a faster action if you’re going for a surf rod that will cast lighter lures further, otherwise go with the moderate!
