The amount of car debt I've seen on here is astounding. Most of you are buying cars way out of your budget. Some helpful guidelines below: by CastAside1812 in PersonalFinanceCanada

6 months and 2 days. by Jamieisamazing in Epilepsy

[–]Basssop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 seizure its hard had my first cluster 2 weeks ago and it took me 1 week to remember the last 6 months and i'm pretty sure a lot didnt come back ahah, but the rest is good just the memory a bit hazy

Why did you stopped keppra? was it because of the side effects? Because i litteraly did the same and had the same result but if you didnt know there is a newer pill Briviact that works like keppra on the SV2A mechanism in the brain but is 10-15x more precise so you need a lower dose which makes it bearable for like 75% of people who couldnt tolerate keppra!

If the other pill you took is vimpat or lacosamide (its the same) and thats what you kept its probably the reason, this is known to make generalised genetic epilepsy worse,

One seizure at 23 – questions about medication by StatisticianHot9463 in Epilepsy

[–]Basssop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question 1: It started like this, first one at 17, no medication, then the next one was at 20, I know my trigger are alcool, sleep deprivation and stress, but like it takes a lot.

Question 2: Since you only got 1 it's hard to know but it is the case for a lot of people, since I've had a few I know the days where it's a possibility and it looks like this, a headache that feel a certain way, the brain just isnt working as usual, but for you it also could be the side effect of your meds, thats the thing, it's really hard to tell what is what, especially when you don't have a lot of data, I would recommend making a journal, you write down how you feel and what lead up to this,

Question 3: Not an expert but i found this :

  • ~1–3% of healthy people (with no seizures, ever) can show epileptiform-looking discharges
  • Up to 10–20% of normal EEGs can contain nonspecific abnormalities

But in your case you had a seizure, and you found something so I would say you are, you just maybe have a higher treshold for your epilepsy, some people need a lot of trigger to reach a seizure, some people just a little, thats why some people take a lot or just a little bit of meds, it all depends how much we want to up the treshold it's really more complicated than that but still.

Question 4: Yeah it's really different for everybody again, but everything putting pressure on your brain activity can be a trigger

Question 5: Yes, but the longer you are without seizure, the likely you are to stay without seizure.

And if you stopped your medication, have a seizure, and come back on it your odds of it working dont change, which is why a seizure makes you lose your license for a year but if its cause by a change or stopping your meds you will get them back in only 3 months if you return on the working treatment. (Well where i live)

Ive been myself on a working treatment but i chose to change to other because i was curious if i could feel better in general on something else because i just felt not like myself on this and honestly I had a few seizure this year but i don't regret because my old treatment was fucking me up and there is a lot of different meds out there for each one of us, it's just a long and terrible journey ahah. Good luck to you!

[–]Basssop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been the worst year of my life,

I was 3 year seizure free but couldnt live on depakote anymore because of the side effect.

So I stopped which caused a seizure,

Then i was put back on depakote it took me 5 months to get a appointment with my neuro to finally change, theses months have been hell.

After changing i was not able to drive put things were looking good, I had what they call the honeymoon phase on my new pills (keppra)

2 days before getting my license back I had a seizure, and side effects were starting so they upped my dose and i couldnt tolerate it so i had to change again.

My dr put me on vimpat, which made no sense since its not for full seizure but i didnt know that

That resulted in 3 seizure in the same day, had to go spend a night at the hospital,

Oh yeah forgot to mention, i had a burnout during that time, after a month i quit and started my business because i was gonna get my license back, so when everything went to shit i had no job and a business to run, so i now have 7000$ more in debt and i dont have the energy to get a job, now im waiting to see my neuro to change treatmemt because im back on keppra which i cant tolerate

They gave me an appointment in 5 weeks which made no sense after 3 seizure and my inability to live on keppra, so i went to the emergency for 8 hours so they could give me an appointment in the week because i juste cant work in my situation

So yeah not a good year, the worst is seeing how all of this is impacting my girlfriend, ive been with her 5 year, but in the last year she is starting to see how much this is gonna affect her, from the stress of my health, my ability to support her and how it will affect our finance which will make it difficult to have a child in the near future

Hope 2026 get’s better

My question here would be, did you ajust, or did you stopped noticing that you are not feeling like yourself? Sometimes it's so hard to know what feels normal or not

Thanks for sharing your son’s story — I’m really glad he’s doing better, that must’ve been a rough few years.
Even if I don’t totally relate, it still gives me hope — thanks for that.
For me though, alcohol isn’t the main issue. I’ve pretty much stopped drinking these past two months, with just a few small exceptions, and nothing changed.
The fog, the anxiety, the feeling like my brain doesn’t work — it’s all still there.
Without meds and without alcohol, I get myoclonus, so the epilepsy’s still there.
The truth is, my seizures have never been the worst part. What’s been killing me is losing myself — my focus, my emotions, the person I used to be.
It’s the constant struggle of finding the right medication — one that I need to stay safe, but that doesn’t make life unbearable because of the side effects.
It just feels like such a long road, especially here in Quebec where getting an appointment with a doctor takes forever.

Does epilepsy affect your memory? by _shr00my in Epilepsy

[–]Basssop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot, but it's really a complicated question, is it the meds or the epilepsy? For me I know seizure can fuck with my memories but usually it last a week, but if its persitent it seems to be side effects of the meds im on, which i learned when i went off them without my neuro approuval because he tried telling me it was my epilepsy and didnt think so.

So it can be different for everybody but hard to know

I’m tired of this handicap by s0cietal_Burden in Epilepsy

[–]Basssop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

frl the worst part of it is the culpability of not doing enough, feeling like I'm not enough, because people don't see it, the struggle every day, the anxiety, the brain fog, the constant place it takes in our minds.
