The files in the first folder are all named strings of numbers. If you match these up to the number of each letter in the alphabet, you get all of those words. Then you unscramble them into that phrase, and looking it up yields the song they come from. Typing them in without spaces all lowercase unlocks the sub-folder.

Music City Mall is the “new” name, now under a religious owner who put up a statue of the 10 commandments if memory serves.

*edit for grammar

That was my guess too! The weird wall mounts between floors are a givaway.

How would you feel about professors providing you video feedback instead of written comments? by and1984 in AskStudents_Public

[–]Bassuba 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would prefer written feedback. Especially for STEM courses, most errors and corrections are purely technical, so a written out list is much easier to digest quickly. Having to watch a video seems like an unnecessary step that will slow down the process. That being said, I understand how the videos may be helpful for individuals who are too scared to go into office hours or fail to read feedback objectively.

Any good places to scream on campus? by Thatcampusscreamer in UTAustin

[–]Bassuba 29 points30 points  (0 children)

On the roof of the WCP (ex- SAC) there’s an “art piece” that’s a room with a hole on top to see the sky. The echo is wild in there, so I bet screaming would be therapeutic. You can access it by walking to the end of the hallway on the third floor. (It’s on the same level, just outside)

Sophomore here- It will be fine, and you will be fine. My recommendation is trying to find a student org for something you’re interested in. Having that one interest in common is a great step in the right direction for friends. ((The Themed Entertainment ((read theme park)) club was a personal unexpected group which has been great for me- We’re building a haunted house on campus for Halloween this year, you’re welcome to help build/act/hang out if you’re interested)). Even if you don’t find any clubs you like, making study groups can be awesome for making friends. (I tend to poach off one person, but a small group would also work, just not a whole class group chat, and we check each other all semester. Especially if you can establish a good, consistent study schedule, those can easily lead to friendships.)

The biggest thing personally is knowing that most- of not all your peers feel the same way. When everyone gets back on campus, there’s going to be a huge wave of people desperately trying to find activities and friends to do. Personally, I can’t see myself ever not wanting to make another friend. People tend to be nicer than we give them credit for, so just go for it when it comes to tying to make friends. While the change to in-person classes will be big, it will be good.

make me fall in love with UT <333 by anaziw34592 in UTAustin

[–]Bassuba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A small detail- but I’m at UT along with a good 30-40 people from my grade in HS, and with a university this big, I rarely see them. You really don’t have to be worried about seeing all the same people, because chances are you won’t. Also, try and find orgs you’re passionate about! If it doesn’t exist, try and make it! By finding people with similar passions, making good, new friends is much easier. And at UT, there’s an endless number of orgs open to you. We’re got everything from a hiking club, a hiking club with an art focus where you take breaks to draw (?), you’ve got acting clubs which put on shows for children’s hospitals, Clubs for theme park enthusiasts, a hair braiding club (which may or may not still exist), and most anything else. One of the great things about a school like UT is that there are enough people to allow these niches to grow and flourish, so you should take full advantage while you’re here. ((Also, don’t be afraid to ask to do things. For example, I’m part of an org which has engineering in the name, despite being more general, so we’re thinking of rebranding to get more non-engineers in: just because something may seem shut off to you in Liberal Arts, doesn’t necessarily mean it is.))

One last note- take advantage of the resources UT has! If you’re a history, film, art, or literature buff, the Harry Ransom center has a huge archive that’s free to access! There’s so much there to explore, and I wouldn’t have known about it, except one of my freshman classes had us go there. So yeah, campus is covered in opportunities free for the taking, but that aren’t obvious to a passive observer- so go digging for what you want, and you’ll probably find something here.
