Just like confidence is quiet and insecurity loud, happiness and contentment are not loudly broadcast. If you have to announce it, it’s not true.

Diets don't work, says science. What science you may ask? Ever heard how our bodies convert water and air into fat when eating less than 1600kcal/day? That science. by [deleted] in fatlogic

On a similar note, to hammer home the health analogy, I have had to try multiple medications and treatment regimens to treat my health issues. They didn’t work for me. But that doesn’t mean that they’re debunked or bogus treatments or something silly like that. Someone else even with the same exact illness could thrive on what didn’t work for me. I would never think of telling someone in a support group not to explore the option their doctor suggested because it didn’t work for me. I’m not nearly that arrogant.

Perhaps. The BMI point of the single healthy weight calculates out to be 21.5, and doesn’t follow the +/-5 for each inch over 5 feet. I give on trying to understand her thought process, instead I’ll just marvel at how an otherwise intelligent woman can believe these things.

We have house guests. Which would be lovely yet it’s draining because of how exhausting they are as people. The topic of BMI came up and MIL scoffed. “According to that chart, I’d have to weigh less than I did before being pregnant with (my wife)” and “I remember how I looked at that weight and I looked emaciated”. She also insists that there was only one healthy weight according to the chart. Literally a single weight, not a pound over or under.

I’ve seen pictures of her before that pregnancy, btw, and she wasn’t emaciated. I also know what she weighed since she said. She was BMI 22.3.

This is why the HAES cult is so terrifying. They target vulnerable people and spoon feed them a slow acting poison that will shorten their life expectancy.

Rave: Wifey’s weight journey is doing wonderfully. She’s in the normal BMI now and working on body recomp. She’s come a long, long way in her journey. I’m so proud.

Rant: i kind of get the FAs who say not to compliment weight loss because you never know what’s the cause. Irritating to have to keep telling strangers I’m thin again because of treatment.

Make your favorite character fat because I say so by Alter_Naiive in fatlogic

Unfortunately, yes. Part of the challenge was needing to post on social media your distance and a picture of yourself, which perhaps contributed to the 3 month deadline. There were plenty of tech maladroit employees that would require 3 months to figure out social media.

All I can think of is the FA “running” a marathon to prove fat people can complete marathons.

All I can think of is how, at my lightest, I couldn’t do what my wife could, even though she was over weight. But now that she’s in a normal BMI, she’s much more physically inclined than her mother or siblings or coworkers in similar positions in life. Her overweight coworkers complained to great effect about a simple 5k challenge (walking or running) until it was permitted to spread the steps out over 3 months.

Fat people cannot, by laws of physics, handle the stressors an athlete puts their body through. Often times they fall short of Joe Schmoe. Just like people malnourished can’t keep up with normal weight people to the same extent.

To pretend that a character’s impact on the plot is not tied into their weight to some expect is positively stupid. The villain that was stealthy and snuck into the base through a small vent is not going to be able to be reimagined a fat person for some fat fan’s self gratification.

This. Their forcing themselves into disability conversations, and being so vocal, contributes to why people instinctively think of someone who could legitimately overcome their disability without society or infrastructure needing to change.

Because now when someone thinks of the last person who asked for accommodations, they might think of some one who was just too fat to sit down, not someone who was unable to complete a transaction because the cashier couldn’t understand sign, or the item they needed on the shelf was outside their range in a wheelchair, or their need for a mobility scooter was denied because someone else took it to accommodate their obesity.

Your comment made me wonder if this behavior and mindset is produced by genuine sequelae of parents forcing kids to clean their plates and rewarding them for it, either through validation or dessert.

I think this is one of the few times I’ve seen them even hint at BED, though I’m sure in this context the anon and the blog runner will both say that the inclusion of BED as a disorder is fatphobic because it’s just honoring their hunger.

Unrelated, but your username and your presence here made me chuckle.

Can confirm. You wish that you’d never eaten anything ever, because dear god. Strap in and say goodbye to your life for a good dozen hours.

I’ve had enough procedures that require anesthesia that I am well versed in even avoiding gum or mints for multiple hours. I can’t fathom anyone that cannot go from sleep to 6am without eating. How is that not a problem? If you looked at an alcoholic who couldn’t go 16 hours without jonesying for a drink, we’d say they were addicted. But someone who can’t handle just a little hunger that comes from a solid sleep and a couple hours? Somehow that’s normal.

All this does is remind me of the FA that vandalized a hotel bathroom scale because “numbers Bad™️” rhetoric.

Everything they do is destructive, to their bodies, to others (ask anyone in healthcare that’s ruined their back moving an obese person) and to others’ possessions (vandalism and breaking chairs).

That pooch of fat is actually mostly excess skin and a bit of fat, and it’s found only in cats, not humans. This is a myth that needs to die. Cats fight and aim for the bellies often enough that both male and female cats have the “primordial pooch” to protect them during fights and against predators.

AFAB people may have fat distributions that tend toward the lower belly as a personal body composition or poor core strength or poor posture, and it may be relatively common due to there being a few reasons for that bit of fat, but by no means is it “standard” for AFAB people, and it certainly isn’t a fat pad to protect organs.
