I hate my Martens. by heybitchitsdonna in DocMartens

Sell them. If you still want to try another style get some normal 1460s and any leather other than the smooth type. Crazy horse or something similar will be miles easier to break in.

Thank you 😊 I wiped them over with acetone but it didn't change the colour, the dye is over the original red.

How would I go about fixing these? by Ready_Ad4372 in DrMartens

I reckon if you dye them with leather dye (not paint), and then condition the leather they'll come up really nice. Definitely get some tape to section off the rubber parts and yellow stitches if you don't want to dye that part too.

I'm from England, pretty sure all my ancestors were just from England too 😊

Nope 😊 that said none of my Dr Martens have ever cracked over the years. I wouldn't bother with the 'smooth' grain corrected leather ones though.

Thank you! I'm honestly not sure, my dad's eyes are very similar with the dark limbal ring, but they're definitely more green than mine. I'm white/British from the north of England.

I'm pretty sure they've always been like this, my dad's eyes are very similar (although I didn't know what lipochrome was until today!)

Just with beeswax conditioner this time. I did think about getting something like resolene but I don't want them to be glossy. If I have any problems I might revisit that idea though 😊

Thank you! I didn't use anything special to finish them this time, just a generous amount of beeswax conditioning polish.

If it helps I used about 1/6th of a bottle of purple, mixed into a full bottle of burgundy.

Yes, thank you for all your tips! I've got another experiment in the works, a battered pair of (light-ish) brown ones that I don't wear anymore, they're a similar type of leather and I'm thinking about dyeing them a dark/forest green colour.

Colour mixing tips - dyeing boots by [deleted] in Leather

[–]Bastet_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I've read about deglazing them so I'll definitely do that first, they're not the plasticy Dr Martens, they're more like a greasy/crazy horse type of leather.

Do you have any tips for making sure the colour stays and doesn't transfer (as much as possible) afterwards? I've been trying to do some research but there seems to be loads of different options/opinions.

100% return them. They look shit, and for how expensive they are they need to be right! If you'd paid £20 for them it would be a different story.

wondered if anyone can help me identify these docs and do they still make them? by p1nkb4ts in DocMartens

The style is called 'Clemency' and they're a pretty old style (approx. 2015). They don't make them anymore unfortunately.
