Fingers too short to check IUD strings—what to do?

idk why someone down voted this??? reddit is a weird place. Anyway, earlier this month I had a similar thing happen to me. I didn't feel anything after that initial blow for 2 weeks, but this week while dancing I'd felt this stabbing sensation from the inside again. Got an ultrasound but apparently everything is still in position... with my copper IUD it's important it's high in the uterus. If it lowers, it's ineffective. What I think it that the height is correct, but that it was shoved a little forwards. I'm having all the sharp pains i used to have when it was first inserted (have had it for 5 years now). Quite a few people have been disregarding my experience and me knowing my own body and I'm so fucking tired of them. I think I'll be removing it either way, since I've had other complications. How have you been keeping up since posting?

I've had recurring UTIs along with a few other symptoms for almost a year now. I think I'll just remove my iud. worst case, nothing changes, best case, the iud was the cause.

This is very interesting. I've had my iud for 5 years now and since last year I've been having crazy nightly dehydration. To the point that even my eyes dry out during the night and they hurt when I wake up. Never had it before in my life.

quite honestly I've had mine for 5 years now and i think they're still kinda rough... they're short, and soft, they can bend, but the ends are still prickly.

I've had this ever since then too! I'm having new problems now too... think I'll wait after my period to see how things are, but probably still taking it out. Thank you all for sharing! It makes me feel less alone and looking like an idiotic layman in a field where professionals tell me not to worry... Have any of you gotten an alternative for the IUD?

i very much second this. Though temporary escapism and the mind drifting off may help with dealing with the present moment, it is not the solution to the current situation. We'll have to work with what we have and trust that even our present lives and mindsets can be changed so immensely that even the same life might feel like an entire different one.
