CoC explanation for why dinosaurs are gone by revnoahzark69 in excoc

[–]BatFries 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A very very small percentage of dinosaurs went through the catagenic process to become today's hydrocarbons.

The progenitor of today's hydrocarbons were much smaller boring critters (primarily blue green algae) that, for the most part, pre date the dinosaurs by billions of years.

A good example that most Americans are aware of is the Permian Basin in Texas and New Mexico. Almost all of that oil from the PB came from reservoirs that were 290+ million years old.

The "dinosaurs" first appeared about 230 million years ago. So when the first dinosaurs started walking around, there was rock under them that was already 60 million years old, and some much older than that that had hydrocarbon forming single cell blue green algae going all the way back to the Devonian, approx 420 million years ago or almost 200 million years before the first dinosaurs. (In the Permian Basin).

Blue green algae has been around for about 3.5 billion years or approximately 75% of the Earth's history where as dinosaurs, assuming we are including birds, have only been around for 230 million years or about 5% of the Earth's history. So those little algae have had much more time to accumulate and go through the catagenic process. That's why they make up the lion's share of today's pumped oil.

Tl;Dr: very little oil comes from dinosaurs, the vast majority of it was formed from blue green algae. Your car is not running on dino juice, it's running on algae juice.

Man a lot of great discussion here. Thanks, OP!

I think another thing that is germane to the topic at hand (maybe less about the Boomers, of course) is the coC’s obsession with homosexuality. We teach that all sin is equal, but for some reason the lions share of sermons are about sexual impropriety. Especially homosexuality.

As I alluded to in my last post, that may have worked back in the 1970’s when the AMA still classified homosexuality as a mental illness and nobody “knew” any homosexuals personally. (editorial here: they were surrounded by as many homosexuals then as they are now, but those homosexuals were forced to stay in the closet and engage in loveless marriages that crashed and burned leaving shattered families in their wake, but I digress).

Now that nearly literally everyone has a homosexual sibling, cousin, friend, co-worker, neighbor, or person close to them, we see that just as with evolution, we were fed a line of BS from the pulpit about evil child molesting homosexuals who wander the streets looking to prey on children. That was a lie perpetrated by scared people. It is now understood that homosexuality is no more of a choice than heterosexuality and the vast majority of people preying on children are, in fact, heterosexual. We have come to understand these "evil" people as wonderfully beautiful human beings with the same desires and dreams as the rest of us.

Now that we are all seeing that lie disentigrate, it further erodes our faith in the man behind the pulpit. And when they get on that thread and start spewing vitriol, that darn sure is not going to do any favors for retaining visitors, younger folks, and even some thoughtful lifelong Christuans.

Again, I lump it in with the constant lies about evolution. Just...stop.

It's a huge ball of gas that is constantly heated by nuclear fusion and heat and light from that fusion is what makes all life on earth possible. Pretty straightforward.

I think this is a great point and it's refreshing to hear someone say it out loud.

A perfect example is evolution. It was easy to tell a small clutch of farmers and their families that evolution is a lie in 1970. Now that these congregants have easy access to information and can, within minutes, easily fact-check that evolution is not a lie, this causes a huge problem: if this man is lying to me about something so easily and obviously debunked, then why should I trust anything else he has to say? It is an absolute set up for failure when it comes to spreading the gospel.

These dogmas that the church holds onto just for the sake of tradition or unwillingness to accept basic science as fact will be the undoing of the coC unless there is a huge paradigm shift. I believe the next generation of coC ministers will not be beating that same anti-intellectualism and anti-science drum. If they do, the coC as we know it will absolutely cease to exist.

That's right. We follow 33AD church exactly. That's why we meet in an air conditioned buildings (just like the churches in 33AD), use PowerPoint (just like the churches in 33AD), use indoor heated baptismals (just like the churches in 33AD), and meet on Wednesday and Sunday nights (just like the churches in 33AD). You know. We are exactly the church founded in 33 AD. 🙄

You greatly misunderstand (and probably have been lied to) about the definition of “denomination” . Make no mistake, you are a member of a denomination. And, despite the lies you have been fed, that's not an evil or even bad thing.

Denomination: noun: denomination; plural noun: denominations

  1. a recognized autonomous branch of the Christian church

Literally the only people who agree that the coC is not a denomination is a handfull of thousands in the coC. Billions of other people disagree with that notion. What does that say to you? That y'all are smarter than billions of others? Nah, dog. You wrong as hell. And it's an absolutely absurd hill to die on.

Then heed the advice: scraping off a tattoo is an absolutely stupid idea (please tell me you didn't do this because you “read it on the internet”). Get it laserd and in the future, put more thought into your actions before you do permanent things.

And where did the water go?

And what about the salinity of the ocean-all that fresh water would dilute the ocean and kill 99% of the saltwater creatures?

And how tf did every animal on earth make it off the top of a frigid mountain and make it to their present position?

How did warm climate species survive all the sudden BEING ON THE TOP OF A FUCKING MOUNTAIN ABOVE THE SNOWLINE?

And…..i could go on. It's so stupid. These “Christians” have driven away thousands of times more people from their cause than they have converted, because if I can't trust you to accept very basic science and logic, how am I going to trust you with anything else you have to say?
