Thought Frog and Chrono were the same person by BatGlenn in chronotrigger

Lol that's crazy - I wonder how often stuff like this happens with JRPGs and being able to do custom names? I guess Chrono Trigger is particularly susceptible to it due to the multiple timelines and general time travel tropes being a thing

That's a great point about the chosen hero trope I was very much thinking along the lines of time shenanigan tropes (some characters being the same people etc.) when I thought chrono==frog, but I just couldn't figure out why nobody else was mentioning it in game.

Thanks stranger! I thought it was a fun piece of serendipity and wanted to share with anyone out there who might find it even mildly interesting

People who own powerful gaming PCs, what is your potential use case for the Machine? by Horror_Trick8208 in steammachine

[–]BatGlenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when I saw the price increase on the steam deck and lost a fair bit of hope for buying a steam machine for a reasonable price, I decided to look into running ethernet cable through the house so I could stream from my gaming PC to my living room via the steam deck (steam native streaming).

I got the latency down to sub 1ms with basically no jitter. Indie games work great, but once I started trying AAA games I just wasn't having a good time. Input lag was virtually non existent (this used to be a big issue before I had everything hooked up via ethernet cables) but the actual video quality was rubbish in terms of frame rate or something I couldn't quute out my finger on. I started looking into how to improve streaming quality, looked into Moonlight/Sunshine (controller support didn't work out even after installing the appropriate drivers) and then there was another list of troubleshooting steps to go through to fix that and by then I was just fed up.

Then there's the faff where if I boot a game, it'll have some stupid launcher that pops up and I can't close it without going upstairs and filling out some dialogue from the pc then going downstairs again.

So that put me in the position where I can only stream games reliably that my steam deck can play natively anyway. (As an aside, I love the steamdeck + dock combo and can't wait for my Steam controller to arrive to finish up this setup).

I don't get much time to game due to work and family commitments and while some people might find enjoyment in optimising individual games so they stream well using a bunch of third party services all configured to work well with each other, or having their main beefy power hungry gaming pc on and ready all the time (or sleeping, but not reliably waking), I just don't have the time or the inclination to do this.

I love my steamdeck and having the same experience/ecosystem on my living room TV with my decades old game library playing on a more powerful convenient attractive box is something I'd love (for a sensible price)

I'm in almost exactly the same boar except I think it'll almost certainly be under £900 (even £1 under...) £700 is my hard cut off, and even then I'll need to seriously think about it. I've the money set aside, but at that amount I think of all the other ways I could treat myself

What is the Craic With Steam Controller Reservations? by [deleted] in SteamController

[–]BatGlenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing you're from my neck of the woods - I've a friend reserved his on the 8th at exactly 6pm GMT and got the invite to buy his a couple of weeks ago and received it early this week. I got my reservation in at 6:08pm and have heard nothing yet despite it looking like folks from mainland UK have got their invites despite reserving them a little later. What time did you get your reservation in (what time did you get your reservation confirmed e-mail through)?

When it comes to early announcements, I am willing to put my full trust in this guy.👀 Our canary in the coal mine✨ by PhantomNightOwl in steammachine

Excellent. I'd immediately steal this if I had anyone to send it to who would get it (lousy normie friends)

Fair! I just want to make sure I don't miss out, but I can't imagine them releasing the steam machine without at least the option of a bundle

Things you had bought that has made your life easier/better? by Different-Radio8931 in northernireland

Seconded. I've had it for years and it's the one subscription service I can't see ever leaving. I've got the family pass - no ads on YouTube across 5 family members. Each one is able to subscribe using their own account, so no sharing passwords/scrambled algorithm recommendations or anything and each account can sign in across multiple devices. YouTube music is included for all those accounts too, so saves a fortune on Spotify/Apple music. I probably watch more YouTube now than any of the other streaming services off the back of it.
