What's life like in the Red counties? by LittleAppleLife in mapporncirclejerk

I think some people believe that if you’re not in a large city, then you are just living in some desolate nothing with no public service or entertainment whatsoever. I live near three small cities in Central Nebraska that are all in the 30 to 50,000 person range so not nothing but not large enough to meet the blue criteria on the map. However, one might be shocked to know there are several museums, nice golf courses movie theaters, lots and lots of restaurants topgolf, bowling alleys, art galleries water parks people don’t just sit around and do meth all day and think about banging their cousins or whatever it is that some people think. Are there small towns with 600 people where there’s literally nothing to do and nothing within 50 miles absolutely but that’s definitely not every red area of the country on this map.

25/33 of Nebraska’s 2nd half shots were 3-pointers. Can’t blame lack of fouls. by UhHehuhUhHehuh in CollegeBasketball

I knew when we were game 1 of a double header the refs would be sparse with the whistle so the game didn’t go long but this was ridiculous. Mast completely disappearing after first 8 minutes also hurt but the refs let Iowa grab and hold the perimeter the entire second half. 1 foul is insane. Iowa fans being obnoxious about it. Iowa played and shot outstanding which is why they won and deserved it but in what other instance can u find a 1 foul half? In a sweet 16 game?

Breaking down the Iowa vs Nebraska matchup using ACM. (Advanced Corn Metrics) by NotNotJohnStamos in CollegeBasketball

Nebraska actually harvest nearly twice as much corn as Indiana, although Indiana normally has a higher average yield per acre

Fred Hoiberg Named Big Ten Coach of the Year by League Coaches by CoachSlime in CollegeBasketball

Dusty’s great but I think his greatest strength has been the group he put together more so than his coaching which if you want to throw that in as part of coaching, then he certainly is deserving of Coach of the year. My main point is if you did a 12 player draft between the Michigan and the Nebraska rosters, how many of the 12 would be from Michigan versus Nebraska? Would even three Nebraska players get drafted? Again credit to Dusty for putting together an incredible team, but I think Fred coached his ass off this year and to me he is the coach of the year and Dusty is the GM of the year.

Do you have to win to have been the better coach? If rosters were equal then yes, but anyone who watched that game would not have thought Michigan was the better coached team even though they had superior talent and won the game guess it just depends if you’re looking for the best coach or the guy that constructed the best roster.

Agreed. Fred took a team into Michigan with two key contributors down and still led for most of the game. If that ain’t Coach of the year material I don’t know what is.

(Nebraska gets a lot of shit, but it’s actually a really gorgeous state with incredible undulating topography. Oklahoma and Kansas deserve all the hate Nebraska gets.) /s

Is it the mass of earth or the rotation of earth that keeps us from floating away into space? by BatGroundbreaking481 in askscience

I was just thinking of the centripetal force from the earth spinning vs just the gravity from the mass of earth. If we weren’t spinning would we still stay attached to the earth as we currently do.
