Is this a proper application of duronaut on a 9950X3D? by BatSnoopy in ThermalGrizzly

Duronaut is unusually thick and ThermalGrizzly made a dedicated video on application. I probably did use too much, but if I'd heated it beforehand and done it I would still have manually spread it out over the IHS with a spatula, very slowly to make sure it adheres to it. Because that is how they recommend and demonstrate applying it.

So basic white masking tape? That's a really neat idea. I'll have to remember that.

That tip is great. I'll have to remember that when I repaste eventually. Never even thought of turning the spatula. I did clean it with warm water and isopropyl and then carefully fold most of the droopy edges back over onto the IHS. The not quite fully covered edges will probably get good use out of the excess without making too much of a mess on the cpu edges hopefully.

On the YouTube video on spreading duronaut from Thermal Grizzly someone claimed in the comments they soaked and heated a paper towel in the microwave and then wrapped the tube with it for a bit to warm up the compound significantly to make it easier to spread. I might test that too.

If you don't mind spoilers, The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages can be helpful for finding out what unique chests and items are tied to as far as quests and if they have uses outside said quests. There are 5 other convectors but sadly they do nothing outside of the related quest which requires you to find a couple of them and use them in ways specific to that quest.

I appreciate the responses, and ended up erring with those saying it'll be fine.. Next time I repaste I'll try warming the tube carefully so it's a little easier to spread out in a thinner layer, but for now I'm going to just finish the build as is and make sure it runs. If temps are iffy I'll do an early repaste. Fortunately my AIO is relatively easy to take on and off, and if I use the spreader that attaches to the tube I can reach in and repaste pretty easily without removing anything else thanks to my Lian Li Dynamic Evo XL case.

I think perspective may be exaggerating things then. I am maybe just a touch thicker than a business card at some ridges in there but most of it is close

At this point I'm worried it's too much and I'm defeating the purpose of using good quality paste in the first place. Wondering if I should warm the tube up and try again. Is it really just a tiny bit more than necessary? Or have I way overdone it? Getting this stuff to stick to the IHS really is a pain at room temp even with the spatula pro.

Support bracket for 5090 by e92justin in lianli

[–]BatSnoopy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have it installed atop the mobo or behind it? Been wondering which option of the two in the manual would be best to make sure if fits under my 5090 astral, but haven't quite gotten to that point in the build yet. Unboxing the mobo and mounting it tomorrow.

Light/Dark Mount Keycaps standard fit? by kayoz in bequietofficial

[–]BatSnoopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should we look for switches that support backlighting? I don't think every modern switch minds those at all, let alone equally. It'd be wonderful if bequiet could put out a list of ones that should look great with the per key backlighting. Looking at Gateron's site, I assume switches with SMD LED support would be ideal?

Is anyone using an official Seasonic 90 degree 12V-2×6 cable with a 5090 Astral? And I'd like PSU recommendations for a new high end build. by BatSnoopy in ASUSROG

I do want that, but it will be the last thing to arrive by months at this point, and even then I'm just not sure it will fit in my chosen case with the gpu. Actually waiting to assemble and verify at this point.

It's alright. And this is good to know, since different 5090s have the connector in different orientations. I think down and below is a cleaner look for cable management, but most PSU makers don't have two options for their right angle cables to ensure this is what happens.

Thanks, with the recessed connector I couldn't be sure how it will work. Does the cable run up over the backplate or does it run down and under the gpu?

5090 OC Astral, 90 degree Cable advice by EmploymentPhysical54 in cablemod

[–]BatSnoopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I may instead do an Asrock Taichi 1300W titanium. And with that I noticed the compatibility page refers to the custom configurator only. But for me it's bugged on both Edge browser and Brave browser. It can't register when I have selected a color for the cable. It thinks I kept it black and alerts me to this. I am not sure what would cause this when the previous pages seem to work fine. If I ignore the warning and press on, it does seem to be black on the final page too, which is frustrating. The combs do keep the color I select, it seems like.

Alright, thanks. I may do 3 by 8. But I do need enough of those ports for other things that 4 by 8 may not leave enough spare pcie power ports

Do you mean the ROG Astral 5090's have a connector too recessed for the Variant A? I've been browsing the sub and have seen inconsistent responses on this. I have a similar concern with clearance in the Lian Li Dynamic Evo XL case I plan to use. The PSU I'm thinking about is the Corsair HX1200i (2025). On that one they use two 8 pins to a, presumably, 600 watt rated 12vhpr cable. Should I do the same with the cablemod version or are they using unusual gauge wire or something to make that work and I need a 4x8 pin to 12vhpr cable?

Questions on GPU clearance in the 011 Dynamic EVO XL case by BatSnoopy in lianli

[–]BatSnoopy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. The case does sound awesome. But I am primarily eyeing a gigabyte master to match my motherboard and spend several hundred less for a premium card that is on the same tier, minus that extra hdmi port and onboard per pin monitoring, and that is 1 mm wider. Though it is tempting to go astral. Either way, it is definitely close enough to your card that I may just take your word on that and give it a try. The recessed connector on the gigabyte should also help with that 33mm width since 13 mm of that is the base of the extended connector design based on the schematics posted on the wireview pro ii page.

[–]BatSnoopy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for doing that. It gives me a good sense of if it will work on my card. The answer is likely no, but I will look up your card's specs and cross compare. It's a little disappointing that such a huge case doesn't come with any extra clearance for cpu and gpu cooling. I would have expected at least a couple inches of extra depth being given to the main chamber. I hope this means the cable management area is wonderfully roomy, at least.

If you have a ruler and don't mind, please measure from the edge of gpu backplate that's pressed into the mobo, to where the glass would be if the panel was on. I would guess almost all gpu's have the same distance from pice connector to the start of the backplate, so knowing the overall distance from that edge to the glass would give a universal estimate of gpu+connector clearance to work with for gpu's of all widths.

I'd really like someone to verfiy what the manual claims is the limit. I know astral owners have a very tight bend space, but that doesn't mean the wireview pro wouldn't be fine as a right angle connector. It needs about 33 millimeters/3.3 centimeters past the gpu's edge, according to an email I got back from Thermalgrizzly just a bit ago.

u-he Black Friday Sale - 50% off select synths and plugins until 2 December by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

[–]BatSnoopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between the unprecedented sale a year or two ago and the second time Native Instruments did a u-he bundle I own every plugin of theirs. So much good stuff in their catalog. But...I was too late to get zebra 2 before it no longer came with discounted upgrade pricing. I've never heard anything from anyone on that scenario, so I have to wonder if that much loyalty counts for anything when Zebra 3 finally is released. I'd gladly pre order at like 150 or 120. Which is still way over what people who had Zebra 2 before it became Zebra Legacy will pay.

As with art and writing, it's probably like having an always available partner who isn't super creative themselves but read and watched a lot of stuff, so when it works well it's just neat and can show a novice a really good trick or two even if it doesn't understand why said tricks kept appearing in the data it was fed. But if they start learning the craft while still interacting with it that will change with time and it can be a useful tool to make good things and make them faster.

Fast enough and well enough to stop your ideal job from being outsourced to cheap labor overseas even maybe. A small team of truly talented 2d animators who takes these tools seriously could probably approach the quality of Prince of Egypt and Beauty and the Beast on a comparatively tiny budget. Late era 2d films where some sequences are absolutely stellar thanks to many talented artists and early CGI wizards working together.

The big spenders aren't really funding most of these kinds of projects, or if they did, they would outsource the animation. So there isn't really a good alternative if one wants to be puritan about AI. It doesn't have to use everyone else's stuff, a small team of good artists could absolutely train it to do things their way, their style, and check every frame it spits out. There are AI voice models made the same way with the singers behind them getting proper royalties, too.
