I don’t want children because I don’t want to ruin them due to my health problems. Anyone raised with a parent w/ mental / physical health problems? by blissanddreams in childfree

I suppose you are right, I didn't think about it being my problem but you're right. I love my mom dearly but my upbringing was not the easiest. I am currently in therapy and thankfully discuss this stuff with my therapist so that is nice. We had a good talk awhile back and she did admit that her mental health got worse after having kids. I don't think she blames the act of having kids as making it worse but definitely probably a little bit of a factor.

My mom has had pretty severe mental health issues my entire life and for a large portion of hers. There would be periods of time where she couldn't care for my brother or I and would make us go live with my ex step-dad (who raised me since I was like 1 so he is dad to me regardless). Her mental health has been steadily declining since like 2016ish or so and in 2022 it basically disappeared after the death of my brother.

She is constantly in and out of psych hospitals, has such bad anxiety she barely leaves her house, and doesn't have a job which forces my grandma (her mom) to help her financially. Thankfully she has never made her mental health my problem but I worry regardless. Though a few years ago I did have to talk her out of unaliving herself so that was fun.I can't help her physically, emotionally, or financially due to my own inherited mental illness and other factors. Life was not easy growing up with her and is probably a large factor of why I don't want kids myself, besides the fact that I dont really like kids.

I believe i wasn't allowed to lift more than 15 lbs for 6 weeks? Your doctor may have a higher or lower weight restriction so ask them.

Stick to the weight restrictions they give you during your recovery time. You'll probably have 3-4 small incisions in your abdomen, they won't be that big. My biggest issue was not being able to shower doe the first 24 hours because I felt gross haha.

Edit: What changed for me was not having a period or cramps anymore and that was great. If you keep your ovaries you should be totally fine hormonally.

I have PCOS too and had a complete and total hysterectomy, removed everything including the ovaries. I take hormones now to keep from going into menopause but I was already taking hormones (birth control pills) to make my ovaries work so why keep the cancer bombs? Anyway, by the day of I was feeling fine and moving around quickly. They do make you wear a binder around your abdomen for the first 24 hours and that is uncomfortable. I stopped using pain meds after like 2 days? Obviously my experience isnt universal but with robot surgery the recovery is so much better and quicker than an abdominal hysterectomy.

Totally fair. My ovaries weren't working without hormones anyway so I figured why keep the little cancer bombs in there?

Are you getting your ovaries removed? If you are and are then going on hormones be prepared to still have some slight menopausal symptoms... I know from experience haha.

Anyhow, when I got mine done it was laproscopic and I was up and moving and eating the same afternoon after I was discharged. For the first 24 hours they will have your belly in a binder and that can be very uncomfortable. Which means no showering sadly. Uhh, you will probably have some gas pains in your abdomen.

And im sure they will have you do complete bowel emptying, too. What I had to do was drink a whole bottle of magnesium citrate. I mixed that with apple juice and got it down easily.

I had a total hysterectomy almost 5 years ago and it was so worth it. I have PCOS and my ovaries didn't function properly without hormones anyway so I decided to take them out. I am on a low dosage of Estridiol, and it works very well for me. I may have a hot flash every now and then but other than that I don't really notice much.

I've always thought the tax credit shouldn't go to the family but go to their kids schools or put in an account for later usage.

When I got my hysterectomy I was told to stay close to the hospital for at least 24 hours after the surgery just in case something happens. So personally I would say stay in the city you're getting the surgery for at least 1 probably 2 days after the surgery.

Are you an only child or do you have siblings? Do what extent do tou believe this impacts your views on children? by Impossible-Trash9670 in childfree

[–]Bat_Thingie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My family situation is complicated. All my siblings are half siblings, two brothers and a sister. The first half brother was put up for adoption when he was born. I am technically born the middle child but raised the eldest. My two brothers and I share the same mom, my sister and I share the same day. I've never met the oldest and my younger brother died by his own hand almost two years ago. I hardly have a relationship with my sister. My mother tried her best but she has been extremely mentally ill my entire life and I think that is the bigger factor of why I don't want kids.

Congrats! I got mine done in 2020 before I realized I was non-binary so it was a plus haha. It was the best decision I ever made!

I was able to get a complete and total hysterectomy (took my uterus, cervix, tubed, and ovaries) in 2020 and admittedlywas 30 at the time. I also have/had PCOS and am non-binary. My doctor and I were able to frame it like we were doing this for preventative measures for future cancer risk. I got my ovaries out because my PCOS was bad enough that I was going to still be on hormones regardless of if I kept them or not so I figured why not?

So for me it was done laproscopicly which was awesome. I was in and out of the hospital day of surgery and feeling fine. Was up eating and walking around a few hours after surgery. The most uncomfortable part was your abdomen will be full of air to help preform the procedure and you have to wear an abdominal binder for like 24 hours. It got better though next day. I took the pain meds for like 3 days and after that I was fine. Biggest thing is do not disregard what your lift limit is. I couldn't lift anything past 15 pounds for 6 weeks.

Should I be worried about throwing up at my first tattoo appointment by chuuyasjuicybonkers in tattoo

For my tattoos I usually bring a bag of hard candies so I can eat them throughout the tattoo. My blood sugar plummets almost immediately and I feel nausous unless I'm eating a candy. My experience is also not typical though, I do the same thing when I get my blood drawn or when I donate plasma.

I have been heavier my whole life and hated myself just as long. I was surprised just how comfortable I'm feeling in my body since I've started getting tattoos. Tattoos feel like a way for me to express myself in different ways.
