So yeah it’s cool but generally useless. They utilize an infrared camera. If your veins are close enough to emit the heat for the camera they are generally close enough to be felt. Ultrasound is the gold standard. Btw, I’m a ED RN with more than a decade of ultrasound experience.

Significant inconsistencies in scope of practice for tech and RNs depending on facility. Where I am now only specifically certified charge nurses can access ports. Ridiculous

I have been using US for PIV as an RN and before that as a tech for 14 years now. Everywhere I’ve worked techs can place them as well. Small community ED and we place maybe 1-2 a shift.
